Best film schools in the WORLD

Is there a ranking of the best film schools in the world? I guess what I'm really trying to find out is, are there film schools in other parts of the world that are better than those in the United States? I realize that the entertainment industry is in the United States, and I will be attending undergrad in the U.S, but film is really a global thing, so for a grad degree, I'd very much enjoy an international experience. I'd really appreciate it if anyone has any info!

USC and NYU have the best film school in the world possibly.

Are there any comparable schools internationally?

USC-Yeah, George Lucas went there, so it must be good.

Northwestern University, though it's in the USA

on the other hand, george lucas cant direct for ****.

USC (prob the best but not out of the world), NYU and UCLA follow

A good friend of mine who is a film professor thinks the US doesn't have great film schools. He said schools like USC, NYU, Northwestern are not bad but not great either compared to some of his favorites in Europe. I don't know much about film schools but seeing how zillions of awful movies keep coming out of Hollywood (latest piece of crap=War of the World) these days and how the quality films are often found in the "foreign" section, what my friend said may very well be true.

"some of his favorites in Europe"

Do you know the names of these schools he mentioned? Thanks!

hi everybody. next year i am graduating, so a must apply to university. my last toefl was 550 and i must increase it to 650.. what should i do?
any ideas
thank you

samlee - do you know the names of the european film schools your friend was talking about?

my professor tells me that the USA has the best film schools in making films for profit and wide audiences, but that many other international film schools focus more on quality films that might not necessarily appeal to the masses.

"USC-Yeah, George Lucas went there, so it must be good."

...and Steven Speilberg went to Cal State Long Beach, so it must be good too. (He got rejected from USC and UCLA)

I don't. He mentioned some school in Moscow and couple others but I really don't remember. My friend has watched LOTS of movies and his DVD collection is huge even he's pretty particular about what he likes and collects. There aren't many movies that he thinks highly of; "impossible" and "horrible" are often used to describe those that appeal to the masses.

you know Spielbergs latest offering was a load of crap.

War of the Worlds is a tough adaptation for a modern audience, whoever could have directed it.
