Could anyone tell me an apparent clueless international U.K student a list of Finance or Economics majors which are portrayed as 'the best' majors in their respected field.

Thanks.

oh wow, I mean I figured from your vast knowledge of private equity that you'd already know the answer to this.

That thread specifically details schools that have great programs with economics as a major.

For Finance you can just look at the USNews rankings.

ElWilson could you PM me about your extensive knowledge of private equity because I really wanted to know more about this field any I never really got a chance to. PM about which schools are best and general information about it. Thanks

You know, when I mentioned he has an extensive knowledge of PE I was being sarcastic. IMO you're pretty naive to be taking PE advice from a kid still in high school that doesn't even know the top schools for economics and finance.

If you're interested in PE, read http://equityprivate.typepad.com she's in PE, updates her blog every day good stuff. Read merger news, Thomoson has a good page on non-American mergers. Read the http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/ section of the NYTimes, they have great news relating to PE almost every day.

No reason to be naive. I am a high school student. A sophmore as a matter of fact.

Then you really shouldn't be arguing about placement concerning industries which you know absolutely nothing about.

Arguing? Hardly, you said he had EXTENSIVE knowledge on the field of PE and yes I do know the basics about PE, but when you had said extensive knowledge, I thought he had actually worked in the field and could offer some actual information. You know dcfca, some of us actually want to find out more than the average person, you should understand my habit because business is all about getting ahead, even if it is a little bit of information, it changes the playing field.

No, I'm not talking about this thread I was talking about the thread about Wharton's M&T program.

It's one thing to give advice when you actually know things, you've interned or at least have entered college. But you haven't. You were talking about Private Equity placement at Wharton when you clearly know nothing about Private Equity. The issue is that if you don't know these things, you have the potential to misadvise people on what path to take and that's wrong.

And I'm not saying that being young automatically makes you wrong. It doesn't. Take Mahras for instance, he actually interns and trades regularly, he's probably one of the few people who posts in the business forum that actually KNOWS what he's talking about. The rest of you just mention things that you've HEARD and are just kids in high school with no clue about the real mechanics behind the industry. You guys just quote meaningless things like the vault's top 50 banking guide, etc.

dcfca where do you go to school, just out of curiousity?

I'm at UT Austin

Nice...there is 50% I will be with you in person next summer and we can argue all we want. That's if i get rejected from stern and Umich. I probably won't get into stern.
