Best Freshmen Dorms???

When I came in as a freshman I was 'assigned' Bursley by the lottery and desperately tried to switch into Markley. It didn't happen, and I'm glad.

I had a very social hall in Bursley last year and its very true that the residents become close during the winter months. There were a lot of in-room parties that were quite fun (our hall funded our own bp table). Its hit or miss; I heard of some lame halls but I definitely don't regret living up there.

I'm in WQ now and honestly the kids in my hall now are less social than the ones in Bursley.

Se la vie.

Lincoln, As far as Markley is concerned I'm not entirely sure theres a large base of learning community students there. A few of the learning communities on central are Honors, LHSP, HSSP, CSP, MRC, and the RC. Honors you can choose to live in South Quad or Couzens on the hill. LHSP (Lloyd Hall Scholars Program) and HSSP (Health Sciences Scholars Program) are split between Alice Lloyd. I'm a HSSP Pre-Med student and Alice Lloyd has huge rooms, and is a nice choice if you consider LHSP or HSSP for a learning community. The MRC is nice res choice as well since Mojo was recently rennovated and you wont have to walk outside to get to a dining hall like Alice Lloyd and Couzens have to. The RC is situated in East Quad which is a nice location but you have to be a specific type of person to really like being a part of the RC.

"I am going to be in the Air Force ROTC. Which housing area will put me closest to North Hall where the ROTC building is? Also, on the housing application, will I rank according to area (Central, Hill, Nort) or specific bulding?"
North Hall is closest to Mojo/Markley.

I am going to go to the music school next fall and the reason I want to go to Michigan and not is a conservatory is to get the traditional college experience. Do you think I should request Bursley so that I am on North Campus? Or is it better to be somewhere else and just take the bus up to North Campus when I have class (I will also have classes on Central Campus so its not like I won’t have classes there too)?

“What is my chance of getting a dorm in MoJo or Markley and how/when do I register for one?”

When you register for housing, you rank Central/Hill, North - Bursley, and North - Baits. You don’t get to choose what dorm on Central/Hill, it’ll be assigned for you. I believe signing up for housing was around early June.

“MoJo’s on the hill right? how’s their price compared to the rest of the campus?”

MoJo is on the Hill. The price of housing is the same as all the other dorms except for Baits, Oxford, and Fletcher.

And just as a general note, North Campus isn’t that bad as some people may think it is, especially if you live in Bursley. Yeah, sometimes it’s annoying to catch a bus to Central, but it’s not that big of a deal.

so after markely, which residence hall has the most freshmen?

^^Bursley. It is all freshman apparently

Honestly, the only way you will have a bad freshman housing experience (not taking roommates into account) is if you get stuck at Baits.

Do you get paid for doing MRC research (assuming you have a work study award)?

So basically mojo and markley are the best freshman dorms in central campus?

It really depends on your definition of best. As mentioned before, Markley’s a party dorm and super fun to live in. But the rooms are tiny. So for a person who doesn’t want to live in a small room in a loud dorm, Markley wouldn’t be that great.

Honestly guys, don’t worry so much about housing. You get what you get, and only a handful are willing to switch once you get assigned housing. It’s only for a year too.

Yeah, I don’t think I’d want to live in markley. mojo seems nice though…

Does anyone know how hard it is to get accepted to MRC?

I am going to be a freshman here and have the opportunity to have a single dorm In couzens hall. I am wondering what the social life In this dorm is like for a freshman as well as thoughts on living in a single first year. Thanks
