Best dorm?

I already turned in my housing stuff a while ago, but I was just curious which dorms at umich are the best. So just give your opinion and the reason such as location, room size, cleanliness, the type of people, etc. Thanks in advance for your responses.

West Quad. Five minutes walking distance from the Diag, connected to the Union, owns South Quad in annual snowball fight, adjacent to South Univ. street, probably the best location out of all the res halls.

West Quad is the best probably. Closest to everything, connected to Union, and just overall pretty good.

However, given a choice of ANY dorm on campus to live? I'd take Alice Lloyd any day. While the location is farther, I know a few of my friends that live there (and a lot of cute girls there too ;)) And I love their bigger rooms.

Anyone here lived in Cambridge? Moving there fall semester.

Yep, I lived in Cambridge as a junior transfer student. It's between the Union and the rest of West Quad (connected to both of them). Cambridge is the old Michigan Union hotel, so the rooms are really nice -- marble bathroom/shower in the room, big closets, carpeted floors, etc. And it has an elevator which connects to the basement of the Union. This is where the Union Computing Center is. I printed all of my papers directly to those printers and then went and got them. Another good thing is that the RAs are really laid back in Cambridge since almost everyone is a junior/senior... I caused a raucous many times late at night after drinking and never had a problem.

Only bad thing is that for the most part people in Cambridge are really quiet (almost anti-social). Most people don't go out on the weekends and just study in their rooms. Maybe it's because they're all transfer students... who knows. Luckily for me I knew quite a few people at the school when I transfered so socializing wasnt a problem.

ahhhh I'm gonna be the only non-transfer? Still beats the trek up to oxford I guess.

South Quad and West Quad are similar in many aspects as far as room size and location. Only real advantage West Quad is that it's connected to the Union, even though the walk across Madison from South Quad isn't bad, even in the middle of winter. South Quad has better cafeteria, computing center/study area on the 9th floor, tons of fun stuff downstairs (study lounge, big screen tv, ping pong, air hockey, foosball, should have pool table ready pretty soon), smarter people due to Honors college, and it hasn't reeked of weed for around 30 years.

There's no real typical student in Cambridge housing. Freshmen don't get assigned there, but some can still get in there through contract reassignment. It's probably a mix of transfer and upperclassmen. I don't think that many people know about it/want to pay the higher housing cost. I've heard that people living there tend to keep to themselves more, since it was set up to be like a hotel and not a residence hall, so you might have to try a little harder to meet people.

South Quad is a bit nicer. West Quad has dark walls, like some kind of dungeon. Also, my friends at West Quad, when they came over to South Quad, said South Quad halls are more social.

I'm living in Oxford. WOOOOOT!

Oxford is by far the worst place on Central Campus.

And I'm living there. At least its better than North.

I <3 my South Quad.

you're so lucky!! I wanted a contract reassignment, but the guy who I contacted wanted me to come to the Housing office as soon as possible. And since I live in NJ, its impractical for me to travel that much just for this. He was giving me West Quad.

Mosher Jordan will be far and away the best dorm on the Hill once it reopens from renovations for the 2008-2009 year.

South and West Quad are both excellent Central dorms.

I don't really know that many people that live in Baits or Northwood, but Bursley is probably your best bet if you want North Campus.

Isn't a North Quad in the works as well?

When do entering freshmen know which houses they have been assigned?

Mosher Jordan will not be the best dorm on campus because the location is awful. That dorm and Markley are the worst located dorms on campus.

Martha Cook has the best location and rooms by far :-P.

yeah it does have the best locations/rooms..but you really have to be a certain type of person to like living there! I would not def. not recommend it to the majority of the girls. Also, the higher price is def. not worth it..the food is pretty crappy but you're required to pay for all 18 meals a week..and you cant eat at any other dorm. RIP OFF

best dorms for girls is definitely stockwell. mostly all of my friends have lived there at some point and wouldn't have picked any other dorm.

for guys.. i guess it depends on who you are. i personally would prefer to live on hill.
