Can you get Apley Court if you put down 3-5 roommates as your preference? Apley Court is my favorite, but if I don’t get assigned there I want to be in a suite.

yeah you can get apley even if you put down 3-5 roommates just because if you get apley, that means in the first sorting you were placed randomly into ivy yard (i think thats what its called), and most of the dorms in ivy yard all are doubles and triples, although it does become a bit less likely. at the same time, i know people who have asked for many roommates getting singles and people who asked for no roommates to get one or more.

Thanks trickysocksman!

Can anyone list the freshman dorms that have insuite bathrooms and their size and number of people per dorm?
Is it true that they have quieter students than the rest of the dorms?

Although that is true, it definitely is less likely that you’ll get Apley if you put down many roommates. The largest rooms are triples in Apley Court. This is just a guess but I think that I ended up getting in last year because I mentioned having some medical difficulties (Harvard university health services is just across the street).

several dorms dont have in suite bathrooms, with notable examples being canaday, thayer, matthews, stoughton, hollis, and weld kind of (weld has some in suite in addition to hallway bathrooms lol). i know lots of people wanted an insuite bathroom, but living in a hallway bathroom last year, i realized how convenient it is that they are cleaned EVERY day, meaning if people leave horrible messes for whatever awful reason youre never the one who has to deal with it (poor FMO, but we love them haha), just a simple thought.

also, its wayyyy too hard to general social-ness to insuite vs hallway bathrooms. definitely dont come with any preconceived notion that some dorms are more social than others, since everything is completely random. if you would like to become best friends with the people who live around you, its probably easier with hallway bathrooms (and especially since hallway bathrooms tend to be found more often in larger dorms inevitably), but the perspective i have is that this is too much of an arbitrary way to define one’s own social circle. the fact that you all live in the yard freshman year makes life so much easier because it really does leave the possibility open that you can frequently encounter and then become best friends with virtually anyone in the class (and get to their dorm and hang out with them within 5 minutes or so). because everything is all random, dont worry too much about it. it and all of its social outcomes all works out in the end.
