Best GE Classes?

I have some questions about GE requirements! I don’t mind challenging classes if they’re interesting - I actually adore them - and I know that sometimes a teacher makes or breaks a class (at least in my experience) However, I’m really not looking to kill myself with GEs so I’d appreciate the recommendations. I don’t exactly trust polyratings.

I’ve taken about 8 AP exams in high school, passing in all of them, but that doesn’t get me out of too many requirements. If anyone who’s taken some of these classes, or teachers, could offer their two cents that would be much appreciated. We’re asked to put down our first, second, and third choices, so I’ve already narrowed down the ones I’m interested in, and included the teacher(s) in each.

Also, do we get to choose what teacher we prefer? Or are we just assigned?

General Education (GE) Area D1:

ES 112- Race, Culture and Politics in the United States (with Razi or Navarro)

HIST 201- United States History to 1865 (Jonathan Wilson or “staff”)

HIST 202 - United States History Since 1865 (Michael Carver, Joel Orth, Roger Hall, or the ominous “staff”)

General Education (GE) Area C3:

LA 212 – History of Modern and Contemporary Landscape Architecture (Astrid Reeves)

ARCH 217- History of World Architecture: Prehistory - Middle Ages (Stephen Phillips or “Staff”)

ART 111- Introduction to Art OR ART 148- Beginning Sculpture (both teacher TBD)

D4 Courses:

I’d rather take Psych over anything, but because of my AP score technically I’ve passed the first levels?

FSN 250 – Food and Nutrition: Customs and Culture (Doris Derelian)

KINE 255 – Personal Health: A Multicultural Approach (Jennifer O’Brien or Elizabeth England-Kennedy) OR KINE 260 - Women’s Health Issues

General Education (GE) Area D3: So many of these look interesting!

ANT 201 – Cultural Anthropology (Jennifer Lewis, Rucas, or Carrigan)

ES 243 - Survey of Latino/a Studies (Jose Navarro)

HIST 210 - World History I (Jason Linn)

RELS 201 – Religion, Dialogue, and Society (Moffett)

After your first quarter where you are blocked, you can choose every parameter. I can tell you this, getting too caught up on specific classes and in particular instructors and time slots is a great receipt for not graduating on time.

@highschooling I would definitely heed the advice @eyemgh has. As a current student, many people aren’t flexible with their schedule and it may delay graduation.

Anyways, if you do have the option I would recommend:

D1: ES112 w/ Navarro

D3: ANT 201 w/ Lewis.

D4: I would recommend KINE 250: healthy living instead. Pretty good freshmen year class to take because it’s not overly difficult and it’s just good general knowledge to know. KINE 250 is easy to get into your freshmen year.
