Hi, does anybody happen to know the best schools to go to for digital animation? Thanks in advance.

Art Center College of Design in California, Pratt Institute, School of Visual Art in NY, and RISD(graduate program only). These are not necessarily listed in order of quality. You might also want to check out Maryland Institute College of Design and RIT. The latter two both have digital program, but I am unsure whether their focus is digital annimation. You might want to also check out Syracuse University too.

hey.......thanks a lot!! What do you think about The Art Institutes and The Academy of Arts, San Francisco?

There is one in Seattle that only teaches that stuff. It's out near Microsoft.

Yeah that would b Digipen. U guys know how good it is compared 2 the above mentioned?

Check out this site from Disney of programs they think are appropriate for budding animators (not necessarily just digital). I'm guessing there may be overlap with digital animation programs.

ellenemope's list is a good one. One school which I know is excellent is Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, just outside Toronto. Every one of its grads, for years, has had a job lined up long before graduation. It is very well known in the field of animation.

California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA -- www.calarts.edu

Texas A&M has a program that is placing virtually 100% of graduates at places like Pixar and ILM. I believe it is in the architecuture program.

HEy thanks a million guys, I HAVE come across that list before but because its mentioned somewhere there that it was complied back in 97/98 i wasn't sure it was quite relevant. But I think my questions have been answered now =)

The University of Florida has a a computer animation program, if I recall correctly, and U of F has connections with Disney in Orlando.

There's a graduate program at USC.

USC=Uni of SOuth California?

University of Southern California

USC has a strong digital animation program within the school of cinema. Probably a very competitive and top ranked concentration

i heard some of the proffessors are big shots at EAsports

One of the best sites for resesearching digital animation schools is the Animation Industry Daba Base (http://aidb.com). It lists over 300 schools in the US (and others in other countries) that have animation programs. Unfortunately, and obviously, not all of these have majors in the subjext, and some are just single course offerings. But it's still a good research tool. Go to aidb.com, look for "schools" on the left and click on that.

My son did a summer program in advanced animation at Digipen and loved it. Digipen is well known in the industry, BUT is not a place to go for the "college experience." There are no dorms, no food service, etc. It's more like going to an office for work.

Purdue also has an excellent summer animation program. For one price you get dorm room, food, and the workshop. Purdue was high on our list of schools for animation because of it's technical focus and because the price is not bad compared to places like USC.

Wherever you go, make sure that they have interships or co-op assignments. These will go farther toward getting a job than anything else.
