I'm trying to transfer to U-Mich for the fall. I haven't been accepted yet but I'm really hoping that I get in. I'm coming from Oakland community college to major in architecture. Because I'm coming from a community college I haven't the best experience in the way of a social life. Everyone has their own agenda here and isn't really interested in friendship.

I really want to live on campus because I was as many opportunities to make friends as possible. Being an architecture student, most of my class will be on north campus. I originally thought that I wanted to try to get into northwood apartments, but I would much rather have a dining hall immediately available because I don't want to be responsible for stocking my own fridge and cooking, that and I feel like it would be easier to make friends in a dorm environment. Which led me to believe that Bursley would be a good choice, but from what I understand this is mostly a freshman dorm?

I realize that there will be other years of students interspersed throughout the dorms, but I feel like being in a dorm labeled freshman is a bad idea. Should I look for a dorm off of north campus?

My biggest concern with transferring is not being able to make friends, because I literally won't know anyone. I don't mind parties but I'm definitely not the party every weekend type. And I wouldn't be against using the buses to get to north if it meant more friends. From what I understand most arch students spend the majority of their time on days with class in the studio anyway, so it's not a big deal to take a bus.

Does housing at U-M typically room like students together? So would it be likely for me to be roomed with another junior transfer? I really don't know how it works.

What I liked about bursley was the living arts community...so is this really a "freshman" dorm? Is it bad idea to live there?

I really don't want a gross smelly hall...so please give me a heads up if you know of one in particular. And also, are the dorms separated by floor or by wing how does it work? I know of a hs friend that complained all the time about her cmu dorm where the womens floor was just above the mens and her floor always smelled because of the guys below.

I'm sorry for all the questions I'm just scared I will get there and feel I made the wrong choice. I realize too that I will likely not get my first pick because of my transfer status so I'd like to have a couple options to list.

Thanks so much please help!
