Hi all,
I am deeply interested in Great Books, fundamental texts, philosophy, and great literature. I was recently accepted to the University of Chicago, whose Core & Fundamentals major I assumed were the golden standard in contemporary paideia. I heard, however, that Chicago isn’t what it was 30 years ago (sans Kass, Cropsey, Bloom, etc). Could any current UChicago students speak to that? Is it true that all these classes are taught by grad students?
I am also applying to Yale for the Humanities major & Directed Studies and Princeton for the Princeton Humanities Sequence. How do these programs compare to each other and to Chicago? The websites aren’t super helpful for either program so any information is welcome.
Any grad school students have any insight on how their classmates at these places seem to be doing?
In case you’re still looking for colleges, have you ever heard of or looked into St. John’s College?
