Which school is better at job placement for private IP practice? Can I get a job in NoCal, or just in SoCal? UCLA has a higher ranking on USN, but USC probably has more alumni since it's an older school.

I don’t think you should take into account the fact that USC’s law school is older. UCLA’s law school class is significantly larger than USC’s class, and if you consider that UCLA Law was founded in 1949, there’s going to be many more living UCLA alumni than living USC alumni. People who graduated from law school before 1949 are very unlikely to be practicing anymore.

Trying to answer/speculate on this as neutrally as possible (I’m a USC student).

Yes, UCLA Law’s ranking is marginally higher, but I feel like the the alumni network overall at USC, as well as the “credential” in the industry is much stronger at SC. When they say Trojan Family at SC, they aren’t kidding - through USC, though I’m merely a freshman, I’ve already been able to meet and network with a variety of people within my field of interest (film/game composition). My cinema TA, who is working on his doctorate at USC after completing his masters at UCLA, says that the bond between USC graduates is a LOT stronger than the bond between UCLA graduates, and that at any meeting or whatever, the USC grads are always sticking together and chatting, while the UCLA students not so much.

Just my $0.02.
