I was just wondering whats the best laptop out there now for college students? I'll be enrolling in fall 08 so i've begun doing some research. I just wanted to know what's your take on it...

You can't go wrong with a Macbook (regular or pro).

I have the regular Macbook and like it a lot. A lot of people have one, but it doesn't seem to matter a whole lot - I've seen people happy with either Mac or PC.

are these any good?

my friend just sent me these links but i know nothing about computers so what are you opinions on it?

I was leaning towards macs because they have so many useful programs, but do you have any specifics?

Go with a macbook pro if you can afford it, or just a regular macbook. They're more stable than a windows machine, and are built to last. Compatibility is no problem since you can run Windows on a Mac, but running Mac on a Windows is a LOT harder if you don't know what you're doing (plus it's kind of illegal).

Once you go Mac, you never go back :)

Macbook. It's small and powerful and the software included is really good.

if you go with Dell, don't settle for anything other than a Vostro or Latitude.

Macbook Pro, all the way. That's what I have right now, actually. I'd had the powerbook from grade 9-11, but then it finally died on me, mind you, I took it everywhere. While I had it, it did crash once, and because nothing was backed up I lost everything. That sucked, BUT, that was my only problem with it. Never had a virus, and when I had a dell back in grade 8, my pc was always randomly freezing or getting things.

Now with the Macbook Pro, I don't really have to worry about that. Macs are just a lot more user friendly, especially in connecting to the internet and in anything involving graphic design and video. Its just a better computer, haha. Be careful with the screens though, because if it cracks, replacement is kind of expensive. Just use a protective sleeve, and you should be fine.

anything BUT a macbook.

To OP: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-computers/

Dell sucks. Trust me, I have one. And if you do decide to get one, order it WAY before you need it.

the xps 1330 is outstanding. The wait times are ridiculous though. I had to wait 51 days to get mine, but it was WELL worth it. Of course, my exact specs cost $800 more by the time I got it, so that influences my feelings.

Sheed doesn't know what he's talking about. Are you going to take advice from someone whose favorite basketball player is Rasheed Wallace?? (I'm assuming that's what Sheed stands for)

MJ was the best, man.
Anyway, go with a MacBook Pro. Can't go wrong there, and though it may be a bit expensive you get a lot of quality and peace of mind. You get what you pay for.

And Dell MASS PRODUCES everything. You will get a crappy laptop. (Dude, W.T.F. is wrong with you, you're getting a Dell!)

Then a macbook pro it is.. many thanks to you all!

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....go read everything in the college computers section before you make your decision.

Why whats wrong with it?

Don't listen to him. Feel free to do more research and read reviews online and the such, but there's nothing wrong with Macbooks. Yes, they are hard to upgrade, but not any more than Windows-based laptops. Besides, Macbooks just work. My dad has one and uses it daily for work, and it has NEVER frozen on him. Now our Windows desktop, however, freezes at least once every few days.

thats honestly the most ignorant/biased thing ive ever heard. Dell mass produces everything. yes, they do. So does EVERY OTHER MAJOR COMPANY INCLUDING APPLE. Do you think macbooks are produced in a little room, hand put together with the utmost care by a trained professional, making every one different?

XPS M1330 is the way to go. If you edit video/audio, I would go with a mac easily. If not, then that XPS is the way to go. (or the 15" model, depending on what you want)

I've got the Inspiron 1501 and love it! My parents have the same thing. Mine came in like 4 calendar days.. over a weekend. That's pretty good for shipping something after it has to be made. My parents' computer took longer, but they ordered theirs right before school started.

My family has 5 Dell laptops. That's the only thing we buy anymore.
