no, obama brought out MORE black people at the polls. they were voting for both the president and state laws and when it came down to prop 8 they voted against

Isn't there something in the constitution that says laws should not be made based on a certain religion? I wish I could quote it exactly...

No but in california (and all over the country) more black people came to vote. When you vote you can vote for more than one thing since that was on the ballot black people voted for it

The whole idea "black people passed Prop. 8" is ridiculous. Black people were only a small percentage of the voters for it.

yeaaa exactly. ill go find the link...

yea but they tipped the balance enough that prop 8 passed

Mormons are good people, and it is not there fault that propostion 8 was not past. Many people may have different opinions on different subject matters, but that does NOT mean they are all Mormons, and that seems very predujiced. Please do not go insulting other religions that you may not be fully informed on. One should respect other people's opinions. Thank you.

Also, I think we should see everyone as equal, and not as 'blacks' or 'Islamics' or 'Mormons'. I think we should all treat eachother exaclty the same, and not judge people on their religion or outside appearance. One should look at the actions of the person, and the person's personality.

I don't think anyone insulted Mormons.
I said that Mormons contributed over 60 mil to Prop. 8, but that's just a fact.
And when did anyone say that someone who supports Prop. 8 is automatically Mormon?

Speaking of mormons whose seen the new season of the real world they have that mormon guy on there

what is the real world? lol....

That show on mtv its been on for like 20 something seasons you know "seven strangers are picked to live in a house and have their lives taped you see what happens when people stop being polite and start being real" I think it goes something like that. But the mormon guy is actually kinda hot all of the guys this season are.

This thread gets more and more sophisticated the more pages are created

Proposition 8 was cruel, unfair, and unconstitutional. END OF STORY. There's not much more to day about it unless, like I said, you are a hick and think that God will come down and smite anyone who doesn't follow what is written in a 2000 year old book written by humans. Seriously, it's things like Proposition 8 that make my blood boil about the stupidity of obviously the voting majority and, of course, the ridiculousness of the idea that religion should be an influencing factor in decisions that ultimately affect the lives of millions of people. Last time I checked, church and state were separate, thank goodness

^^
Agree with everything Tom said except, you don't have to be a hick to believe gay marriage is wrong, I know many smart people who do.

^^
Agreed

Everyone be happy :)

Religion isn't even the reason a lot of people agree with prop 8. I don't believe it shouldn't be marriage because of religion. Marriage is traditionally between a man and a woman that's how marriage works get a civil union or something. People are not naturally attracted to someone of the same sex. That's not how it works peoples bodies aren't designed for it. I'm not going to hate people who do but it isn't natural and its just not how it works.

"People's bodies aren't designed for it" I'm pretty sure you just cited religion as a source by using the word designed.

People can be naturally attracted to the other sex, if your one of those "It's a choice" people, when precisely, did you choose to be straight?

"but its just not how it works"- I didn't there were set rules determining how things worked... oh could you be referencing religion again, darn tootin it sounds like religion plays a big part in why you support prop 8

Uh no I'm not I'm going to go into specifics but the way sex works the man fits in the woman a certain way. And I never said being straight was a choice people are straight everyone naturally is but these people decide they want to be different. What if someone wanted to get married to their dog? Would that be okay?

did you knowwww that east asian emporers (yeah, the chinese, the koreans, the japanese, with all of those confusing wars and dynasties you probably had to memorize at some time or another) were pretty much all.. gay? of course they had tons of concubines, but they really had it in for guys more than they ever did for girls.

marrying a dog is unusual because that's going beyond the same species.

people don't decide to be different, they just ARE. and different shouldn't be chastised because that's what america prides in hoarding - people who are different. different color, different sexuality, big deal.

Have you noticed that gay people are WAY more discriminatory then racists or sexists. They have gay clubs gay bars gay parades. You know what give me a straight parade I'll let you get married. They think they are way better than us they separate themselves in ways no one else can so you can't compare it to racism. If someone wanted to make a white club they wouldn't be able to so how come you can open up gay clubs so you can't compare gay rights to the civil rights movement they are the ones trying to be exclusive

theamazingjasmyn, that's ridiculous. Straight people go to gay pride parades as well. I think you'd find that if straight people didn't go to gay pride parades, the parades themselves would be significantly, significantly smaller, not to mention lower funded and less popular. As for gay bars, basically their specific purpose is for hook ups and romance that it's probably pretty tough to find in conventional bars. In case you haven't noticed there are many fewer gay people than straight people (something like an average of 1 in 8) so places like gay bars and clubs are places for them to find romance.

You've heard of Texan conventions, right? Californian conventions? British conventions? International club at school? Those are all based around characteristics that aren't chosen, and, by the way, are generally accepting of those who don't conform to the specific purpose of the gathering.

As for choosing one's sexual orientation, that's just completely absurd - there's no other way to say it. How about you give being gay a try for a week or two, see how you like it? Tell you what, I'll give it a try as well and we can report back to CC with our findings

Show me a straight parade there aren't any. If there was the gay people would probably sue.
