Best major at tulane

What's the best undergraduate major at tulane? Do you know something about chemical engineering department? Or finance?

Please don’t take this as being sarcastic or mean, I don’t intend it like that. But your question doesn’t make sense. Best in what way? Most popular? Best for getting into law school or med school? Not only are there numerous approaches to this, but of course it is so dependent on what your talents are. Tulane could have the greatest music department in the world, but if you have no musical talent, who cares, at least as a major? You get the idea.

I am guessing what you meant is which department is considered the most prestigious or something like that, but again I am afraid that is meaningless, at least at the undergrad level. Sure, some majors have more faculty and a greater diversity of courses than others, but all provide plenty for an undergraduate to “chew on”, and will definitely prepare you for the next step after Tulane, be that a job, grad school or professional school. Tulane is very undergrad oriented, so the profs are really into teaching undergrads and being available.

As far as the two majors you ask about, Chem E is one of the two engineering majors Tulane retained after Hurricane Katrina. They eliminated civil, mechanical and electrical, so it seems that the upside for those that want one of the two remaining is that more resources have gone to them. Perhaps jym626, who posts on here from time to time and is a friend, can elaborate on the experience more. Her son graduated a couple years ago as a Chem E, and he had 3 job offers (at least) before graduating.

Finance is very highly regarded at Tulane, with various publications such as The Financial Times of London having praised the program. Tulane has some very innovative programs in this area, and it is very popular from what I hear. I believe students even get to invest some of Tulane’s endowment fund, and you should also look into the Burkenroad Reports program.
