Best Major/School for entrance into Music Biz

Our ds wants to do Music Composition, has had AP Music Theory, totally obsessed with writing and composing music. Looking for sincere advice here on the best direction for him... Major, school,... He's a college Freshman Business Major, very unhappy with that, want to change direction. Smart, talented kid - just dont know which way to turn.
Help? :)

What are his stats and how much can you afford?
As of now, without any further info, I’d say to look into Belmont.

I recommend you post this question on the Music Major forum. What kind of music is he currently composing and has he had any instruction in composition? Does his current school offer a BA in music with a composition track? It is possible if he gets a BA in Music and develops a serious portfolio he could apply for a graduate degree in Composition.

Also, if you’re speaking of classical or concert music, one rarely refers to it as the Music Biz. That term usually makes one thing more along commercial music lines, which perhaps is your intention, and hence the recommendation for Belmont?

He is a Jazz Trumpet altho he loves more contemporary music too… House Music. I think he recognizes the need to be “professional” if he really wants a career in music. I recommended he speak with an Advisor in the Music Dept. at his current school to explore possible majors or minors, so far his contact has only been with the Business School. I will post in the Music forum as well, thanks.
