Hi everyone I have an oppertunity that most don’t have I have a career that allows me to live anywhere in the states im 23 years old I do not go to college my friends are married and or in the military I wanna know from whoever is on here what college they feel is the best to live around I currently live in ca and I am unable to afford rent that cost 1400$ for a 1 bedroom if your lucky!
So anyone’s ideas of they had the oppertunity to go anywhere to just physically meet people and have a good time then where would you go! Let me know! thanks
I’ve heard things about Gainesville being a party town
UCSB is a nice area and big for parties, if you can afford the cost of living there.
Yeah I looked there already I visit all the time but hoping to move out of state
Georgia? I’ll look into it!!! Thanks man
Tampa/St. Pete area is diverse, with great beaches, sports, arts & culture, and affordable neighborhoods. If you want a traditional urban scene, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are both lively and surprisingly affordable. Both have a number of different college options in the area. In both cases, you could qualify for in-state tuition at Temple (Philly) or Pitt after a year working or attending a community college.
Amherst MA - it’s home to Amherst College and UMass Amherst (affectionately known as ZooMass Slamherst) - as well as near a number of other schools including Smith, Hampshire, and Holyoke.
Gainesville is a college town. I wouldn’t recommend it for a 23 year who is not in college.
Tampa-St. Pete area really is diverse. In some areas there are barely any chains and you can tell the local restaurants and shops really blossom.
For partying, all other towns in America are a far distant second place compared to New Orleans
@preamble1776 - UMass is still good with social life but it has quieted down quite a bit in the past ten years. As a Junior here I have lived in several different dorm complexes and I have never had a problem with sound or partying. I was surprised to see that most students I have seen seem to be grades first fun later. With such a large campus there is sill obviously a small minority that likes to party a lot. (Of course a good chunk students party on occasion) This being said, with a school of 30,000 students it only takes 3% of the school population to get a 1000 party fanatics… Lastly, don’t live in a dorm complex besides Southwest if you want to party, the other dorms are simply quiet and boring with a few exceptions. (Central purportedly has some craziness as well)
PS- It’s unfortunate that UMass is still stuck with this party school reputation when many students here come from households of moderate means with the ambition of getting a top class education at a fifth the cost of some of the Boston area schools. Sadly it seems a lot of this party reputation in past years may have come from sometimes uninvited guests trying to look for a good time. When they banned non-Umass students from the traditionally crazy events this year, Super Bowl and “Blarney Blowout”, things stayed within bounds for the first time in quite a while. Many students I know hope this trend continues for the sake of their diploma.
Miami and New York City would disagree with that.
