Pursuit of Happyness and Borat for sure

"i really wish pan's labyrinth was nominated though, that was a fantastic film and will surely grab best foreign film."

I completely agree.... AMAZING movie, by far the best one I saw this year. Little Miss Sunshine was a very, very close runner-up though, so I hope that it gets Best Picture.

I just saw The Prestige a few weeks ago, and it was awesome.

Little Miss Sunshine - everything about the movie was so perfect. The Departed was great, but the ending got kind of nonsensical and was IMO overdoing it. The other 3 movies I haven't seen. Seeing Babel sometime this week though...

Speaking of the Oscars, I would say Babel, the most nominated film of any Best Picture with nominations for Picture, Director, Screenplay, Original Score and Editing nominations. Little Miss Sunshine won the SAG and PGA but lacks Editing/Director nominations. The Departed has only one nomination in the acting categories (I would hate to see Scorsese lose again for Picture, though he's guaranteed to win Director given his track record this year). The Queen and Letters from Iwo Jima have little chance of winning unless either generates last minute buzz.

Predicting winners is not about deciding which film is the best. It's about choosing the film that is most relevant and elicits just the right kind of emotional appeal. It's also about analyzing previous years' data.

My second choice prediction is Little Miss Sunshine. It gained momentum after winning WGA, SAG, and PGA (Crash won SAG last year and at the very last minute upset Brokeback Mountain for Best Picture despite Brokeback Mountain capturing practically every BP award out there). We'll see if LMS wins original screenplay. If it does, it has a fighting chance.

My predictions are subject to change. I don't have a personal favorite, as I haven't watched any of the films.
