Access and front desk, if you can stand the hours, are good options.

for workstudy, when do they actually give u a job?

you're not actually "given" a job. you have to find one and apply. i wouldn't worry about looking for one until closer to the beginning of the school year as work-study doesn't begin until a week or two into fall quarter.

UCLA parking... it pays really well. Also, check out the libraries.

UCLA Medical Center -- the pay isn't great but the environment is priceless!

o wow so whats the point of work study? do they "offer you job opportunities" and thats all? you have to APPLY for the job and you might even not get the job?

Uhh... the point of work study is to make you more attractive to employers. And in a lot of the cases, they only take people with work study.

im still a little confused about how work study works. if you signed up for work study, does the school give you a job or what?

The point of work-study is that the Federal Government pays part of your salary so that your employer won't have to -- thus making you more attractive to employers.

years ago I had a friend who worked in the convenience store in Ackerman (the student union). I forget what they called it, but it's like a 7-11 because it sells soda, candy, supplies, etc. Anyway it was the best job ever! In a school of 22,000+ undergrads its easy to be just a face in the crowd, but it was amazing how many people around campus knew her by name because they would buy snacks at the store! And it had very flexible hours, too.

so for work study, do they give you a list of jobs and you apply for it "under work study" so it makes you more attractive as an employee? also, are the work study jobs only on-campus?

how exactly does work study work? I heard you get to keep half the salary, and the other half goes towards your tuition or something like that.

ya.. now i'm interested too. how do i apply for work study? are there conditions? (ie. family is somewhat poor)

Whether you get work study or not depends on your financial aid need (FAFSA).

if you qualify for work study through FAFSA, when do they give you work study? is it like a job list they give you where you can apply to work study jobs or what?

They give you the work study once you get off your butt and start working, you mooch. :p

so work study isn't a JOB? you have to get a job yourself, but the workstudy is just that the government pays half your salary? is it only beneficial in the fact that the employer would more likely hire you if the government pays half your salary?

workstudy is given as part of your financial aid.

the most you can make via a workstudy job is about 2500 , i belive you can ask them to raise this amount by x amount of dollars... but not much.

its part of your financial aid package, you work and you get paid, but the employer gets reimburst by the government partially.

Go to ucla.edu and search workstudy, they have a lot of info on it.
