Anyone know what the best work study jobs on campus are (ie good flexible hours and light work). I would like to have something related to my major but if not then I'd prefer to work either in pauley pavilion or at ackermon. Anyone have any experience with work study jobs?

Most of the work study jobs are flexible. I worked for the ASHE center as a clerk in the personnel department fall and winter quarter and it worked out really nicely. I'm not sure what the best jobs are b/c I've only had the one position but, for the most part it just depends on what you're looking for in a job. Anywho, I wish you luck with finding something!

ckings86, how much time did your work study job require of you a week? how difficult is it to get the work study jobs, that is, how many applicants are you usually competing against for the job (since they're all posted on everyone's myucla with work study right)?

um...I was actually working between 15 and 20 hours a week fall quarter and about 10-15 during winter quarter. That's actually a lot if you think about it but, I volunteered to work that much and I earned my entire work-study award in two quarters instead of three so, I didn't have to work at all this quarter. However, most of the time, you only have to work about 8-10 hours a week which really isn't too bad. It really wasn't too difficult to find a position. I think I applied to about 4 or 5 online by sending an e-mail to the employer/interviewer. I'm not too sure how competive it is though because obviously some are applied to more than others. Though I do have a piece of advice, for those of you looking for a work-study job don't be afriad to apply to one that only has one position available. In some cases, you'll be the only person to apply which'll help you get the job.

thanks ckings!

What IS a work study job? I don't really get it.

Its money "alotted" to you by fin aid as long as you work for it through various on campus jobs.

well, actually, it can be basically any job you want, as long as your employer accepts Work Study (or would be willing to fill out paperwork to become a work study employer). Don't see why they wouldn't, considering the government pays for half your wage in a work study job.
