ive heard gruebers was good?
barron 2400?

I think Grubers is recommended mostly for math. For CR, I think Rocket Review and Barrons are considered the best, but to really improve you need to read good literature and take lots of practice tests. And of course vocab memorization.

Barron's CR prep book helped push my score into the 700's from an original score of 580. So I would recommend that.

You should also go to the NY Times website and click on the Arts and Design section. The articles there are great reading for CR. I found that they use a style of writing similar to those of the long-reading passages in the CR section.

wb555, how do you think barrons helped you? what did they do differently compared to BB, Kaplan, RR, etc?

are you guys referring to barron's 2009 or barron's 2400?

"wb555, how do you think barrons helped you? what did they do differently compared to BB, Kaplan, RR, etc?"

Well, I can only compare it to Kaplan, since those are the only to books I bought.

The Barron's book gave detailed and practical strategies on how to tackle each type of CR question. Immediately following each of these detailed sets of strategies was a wealth of practice questions (more than I had seen on Kaplan's CR workbook). This allowed me opportunities to turn the strategies into second nature. I studied with it for a little over an hour a day and was done with it within 2 weeks. I didn't feel like I was struggling it or that I needed to review any of the sections.

Kaplan's was not so great, to be honest. I only used it for practice, but I felt that sentence-completion questions in it were too easy in comparison to real SAT questions and that reading-comprehension questions weren't written to look for the same answers as the SAT questions.

I'm talking about their CR workbook. I haven't bought Barron's 2400, but people say its good.

thanks for that wb555 :)

Well, wb555, can you tell me the way you used that book?
