best public policy school

what are the best schools for someone looking to major in public policy.

Berkeley
Harvard University
University of Michigan
Georgetown University
Syracuse University
Princeton University
George Washington University
Duke University
University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill
U Georgia
NYU

There's a lot of great programs, the above are the ones that I first think of.

Top 20, per USNWR:

1 Syracuse
2 Harvard
3 (tie) Georgia, Indiana
5 (tie) Berkeley, Princeton
7 USC
8 (tie) Carnegie Mellon, Michigan
10 (tie) American, Duke, George Washington, Kansas, UNC, UT-Austin, SUNY-Albany
17 (tie) Chicago, Georgetown, NYU, Wisconsin

Yale also has a very good Administrative Law & Public Policy program.

where can i find the usnwr rankings, i didn't know they ranked schools for public policy

You won't find an undergrad ranking, as most programs are traditionally graduate. The rankings above are from the USNWR graduate program rankings (and I believe the last update was 2004.)

You could try social policy at Northwestern...

but then don't you have to take courses in education as well?

Not really.... your coursework focuses on policy that affects 'social' organization; while education organizations would be a part of your study, I'm pretty sure you don't have to take courses in education. You can go to the website to be sure:

http://www.sesp.northwestern.edu/ugrad/conc/sp/curriculum/

If that doesn't interest you, you may want to try American politics... and do PP in grad school. I know Syracuse has an undergrad public affairs degree, and claims to be the best public policy school...

Michigan also has a new program that offers a B.A. in PP.

http://fordschool.umich.edu/curriculum/ba.php

I've heard good things about the program at Occidental.

There's no undergraduate program better than the one at Indiana.

USC's School of Policy, Planning, and Development (SPPD) offers a Bachelor's of Science in Public Policy, Management, and Planning.

http://www.usc.edu/schools/sppd/programs/undergraduate/bs/

Syracuse is known for its public policy program, but the way I see it, it simply isn't worth going to Syracuse over other top schools even if you intend to study public policy program. I'd recommend Cal or CMU.
