I am a rising junior that would like to study Public Policy. I have a 3.5 GPA(taking challenging courses), good SAT scores, and excellent extracuricullars (board member of local united way, student council VP, class VP, varsity soccer captain, have held a job since 9th grade, girls state ect...)

I have done well in highschool but I am certainly not Princeton material. Therefore what colleges would be good for me to consider? Are there any schools that accept students with my stats that are also recognized and or known for their programs in Public Policy?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My first thought was Georgetown. Pretty good school, not impossible to get into for someone who’s a great but not amazing student, a huge amount of internship opportunity for Public Policy at the Capitol nearby.

Can you define “good SAT scores”?

Schools I would recommend:

Duke University
Indiana University-Bloomington
Syracuse University
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

cornell has a policy analysis and management major

The University of Chicago.

The Maxwell School at Syracuse has been ranked #1 in the nation consistently for a number of years. Not sure if it offers undergraduate studies though. Worth checking out.

Both Cornell and Syracuse are within an hours radius of where I live which could be helpful. I didn’t realize Syracuse’s program was so strong. Chicago seems like a great school. However, I sincerely doubt that they would accept anyone less than academic perfection. Any other suggestions out there in the world of college confidential?

Definitely look at Indiana University-Bloomington. It has a great program, and grades are a bit more forgiving. While it is a large school, it has both an Honors College and an active social scene.

Is public affairs the same as public policy? If so, here’s USNWR’s ranking of the master’s programs in public affairs and administration:

1 Syracuse
2 Harvard
2 Indiana University–Bloomington
4 Princeton
4 University of Georgia
6 University of California–Berkeley
7 University of Kansas
7 University of Michigan
7 University of Southern California
10 Carnegie Mellon University
10 Duke
10 New York University
10 University of Chicago

Not all of these universities offer undergraduate programs in public policy.

Do IA have alot of internships despite it’s location? Also, any other suggestions out there in the world??
