Best Rejection Letter Ever!

So, this year has not been the greatest for me. It’s really hard to get turned down by the school of your dreams and wait listed by three of your matches when you have been working your butt off your entire high school career, right?

However, there was a light at the end of the tunnel, and it came from Brown’s rejection letter. Okay, so my situation has not changed, but Brown’s letter really made me feel better about myself. I know the same letter was sent to about 80% of their applicants, but it felt personal and uplifting.

The letter encouraged me and let me know that it is not the school I go to, but how I handle and take advantage of my education that really matters. In times like these, when I am feeling a little hopelessness creeping in to my optimistic attitude, it is nice to hear a little reassurance - even from a rejection letter.

So, thank you, Brown University! I really do appreciate it.

their waitlist letter was also very atypical - it didn't make me feel second-rate and actually made me feel better

props to Brown for this... Others schools should learn this from Brown.

having been wait-listed at 6 schools, Brown's letter was by far the best. total ego-boost, you're-a-great-student sort of thing. I agree, more schools should take a page from Brown's book on this one.

Just out of curiosity, what did the Brown letters say?

My Cornell rejection letter was pretty blah. Basically just, sorry you're out. It's a good thing I got into Brown and was too happy to let the Cornell rejection letter bum me out.

UChicago & Northwestern had pretty typical waitlist letters too.
