Best route to take?

Hello there College Confidential, I'm sort of in a pickle here and would love to have someone else's opinion on what I should do. I will be attending my first year of general engineering come this September, and as for which major I would like to choose, I've narrowed it down to two. Environmental and Mechanical. Now, I don't want to know which is better, I honestly don't care. What I would like to know, is the best route for me to take in my second year. If I do environmental engineering, does that narrow my options down significantly? If I take mechanical, can I still get my majors in environmental afterwards (assuming I figure I don't enjoy mechanical) or switch in my 3rd year? Would having a bachelors in mechanical be beneficial environmental engineering?

Thanks in advance!

If you want to remain flexible and not lock yourself into an engineering field, go with Mechanical Engineering. It is the most versatile engineering degree. Because of the flexibility of mechanical engineering it is easier to switch to another field.
