Best SAT Date

I heard due to the curve, some SAT dates were better to take then others. Like if less people take it in March then you should take it that day because the curve will have more of an effect on your score. It didn't sound true, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know if there is any truth to this rumor?

I heard it too. Supposedly October and November dates are the worst since seniors fresh from summer prep programs will be taking their SATs during those dates.

So every single SAT I/SAT II you take is judged in reference too the all people who took it on the same day as you? I had always assumed that but I'd like a straight up answer. From what I can infer, it seems like the answer is yes.

But from what you guys said, couldn't a smaller number of people taking the test also backfire? Or is the SAT also judged the same way the AP is, where a certain % of raw scores gets an 800, etc.

Thanks

the best sAT date is on august 8, 2008

october is bad, so i've heard, but I also heard that november is good. any opinions?

Every guidance counselor would tell you that the best first sat date is march 14 of your junior year.

i think march/june are good dates
i heard oct jan and may are bad cuz CB offers QAS for those dates

thats a myth, there are no harder or easier tests.....

ive taken past QAS and I've gotten in the range 2120-2210 in all of them, including october and november.

The curve for a given SAT test is independent of the makeup of those taking the test. Percentile ranks are not chosen, i.e., the percentage of people scoring above, say, 750 is not fixed and varies from one test to another. The curve on each test is used only to correct for variations in the difficulty of the test, not to adjust for how many people get 800s, say. The QAS tests have had a range of curves, most of them are very similar (and typical), a few harder and a few easier.

So, pick a test date that works best for your schedule. Whether you have time to study for a given test date is a much more important consideration than trying to figure out which test date is easiest.

I wouldn't care about this. All I know is I might not take it in Oct because it's kind of early, not Jan because of midterm, also not May because of APs, definitely not Jun because of finals and it's too late. So I don't have too much dates to choose from.

^ Take it in March then. I have similar things going on and thats when I'm taking it.

The best date to take the test is when you're ready for it. That's it.

but don't take march if its your first time. i made that mistake. i was ill prepared, and if that was my second time taking it, i would have done so much better.

SkyHigh: I have similar concerns and I'm taking it in December (you can review over Thanksgiving) and again in March if I need to.

^ That's what I was thinking, I might take it either in Nov or Dec, and if it's not good then consider retake in March. I'm still working hard. Thanks everyone.

I was planning to take it in October [junior] because I've been taking practice tests and studying and doing pretty well on them. Does it really matter who else takes it with me?

okay thanks for all the replies, all of these make sense. Except can someone explain what QAS is? thanks

^ 2nd. i took the SAT in middle school twice in january ... i thought that was the best date to take it but maybe not :o

qas is the actual past SAT's. it 's released by CB for months of jan, may,and oct.
qas stands for questions and answer service.
