Best Scholarships?

I've been looking on fastweb and whatnot, but haven't found too many actually. I found out that a friend is a coca cola scholarship semi-finalist and am sad that I missed out on such a great scholarship! Any others similar or good as well?

Oh by the way, my GPA and scores are all pretty good. 2230 on SAT, 4.21 weighted. :) so that shouldn't be a problem, I do community service, am quite involved, etc. Just looking for those with large-ish sums and don't have any super special requirements. Also am Asian if that helps. Not sure if those that require financial difficulty would apply as even though my parents are divorced, one parent makes above average income.

Scholarship Information

Only for 2k, non-renewing.

I also forgot to apply to Coca-Cola and then felt like a dolt. I'd look local; there aren't many large-sum awards still open this late in the game (most are due before college apps, believe it or not). I ended up getting about 12,000 my first year through a number of small scholarships -- a few for $1000, one for $5000, national merit, etc. At this point, I think that's the best route. I suggest applying to all the local scholarships (your guidance counselor probably has the best list). Good luck!

While I agree with the first piece of advice, I disagree with the latter half. I'd say there are many major scholarships (meaning large-sum awards) that tend to have deadlines in January. There are certainly some that have deadlines before some college apps are due like the Coca-Cola, Horatio Alger, and AXA Achievement Scholarships. However, here are just a few of the major ones that have not passed yet:

-Gates Millennium Scholarship (all unmet need for four or five years of undergraduate education; based on academic achievement, leadership potential, community service, and financial need) Due: January 12, 2009
-Elks National Foundation's Most Valuable Student Scholarship (up to $60,000; starts at the local level) Due: January 9, 2009
-Dell Scholars Program ($20,000) Due: January 15, 2009
-APIASF Scholarships ($2,500 one-time award for freshman year) Due: January 19, 2009
-Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship ($7,500) Due: March 31, 2009

I could list a whole bunch more, but these are just a few to get started. Find the websites for these scholarships just by Googling. You'll likely find more than just the websites for these scholarships if you do a quick search. With that said though, I would still follow lackadaisy's sound advice in applying for local scholarships. You should be applying for anything and everything local while using your judgment in picking and choosing your national scholarships to apply for.

Thanks everyone! :)
