I really want to go to USD but i was wondering if any current students, or alumni, wanted to share their experiences. How did financial aid work out for you? How was the life on campus? Was it as social as some schools or was everyone really uptight about their education? Parties, stuff like that? I just want to know as much as i can. Thank you :)

Helllo! I am currently a rising junior at USD and absolutely love it. Let me know how I can help!

Is it really like a rich-people school, or is it more balanced than that? Are there parties and all that there?

Hey I am going to USD in the fall so I thought I would comment on this.
Parties: I think I can safely say that every college has parties, but they can be avoided if parties are not your thing.

Here’s my experience with the school:

I heard they had a really good business program there so I decided to apply. Then I went over to visit the school. The campus was pretty small and they have really nice Spanish architecture, much like what you see in Balboa Park.

Immediately I got that whole “fake” California vibe from it: fun in the sun, tans, bleach blondes, big dumb surfer “bros,” etc. Some people from Idaho or Delaware listening to the Beach Boys may envy that kind of “culture” (if that’s what you want to call it) but personally I don’t like it.

While I was waiting for the shuttle, a group of the aforementioned “bros” drove by in a Range Rover and yelled at a group of bleach blondes in another SUV.

There you have a representation of everything I don’t like about the California culture. Needless to say, even though I was accepted I chose a different school.

See, I had a totally different experience with USD:

I went to visit over Spring Break 2010 and I absolutely loved the campus. It was gorgeous! The grounds were groomed perfectly, the sun was out and it was about 78 degrees, and everybody was super friendly. I always saw people walking in crowds and then when they would see other Toreros they would stop and talk to them. It seemed like everyone there was really happy. Also, on my campus tour I had two instances where students would stop by and yell “Go to USD, it’s awesome!!” That was the only campus tour I have gone on where I said to myself, this is the place for me. San Diego is an awesome town, with the beach close, LA only about 2 hours away, and just great weather, culture, and dining. It really is my favorite city in the US, and I have travelled across the US from NYC to Miami to LA. USD seems like a really good school where people come to study, but also like to have a good time(:

If the whole California “culture” is your thing, then you will probably love USD.
