Best School for Me(going into ministry)

i recently made the commitment to enter into the vocational ministry of the christian church. i would love to pursue the career of a music/worship minister, so what schools offer great music in worship/sacred music programs

Not so much until seminary. Yale has a sacred music concentration (seminary combined with Yale grad music).
You might want to look at St. Olaf.

Also Westminster Choir College. See <a href="http://www.rider.edu/883_4018.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.rider.edu/883_4018.htm</a></p>

A friend of my S's is in seminary now - got his undergrad in Organ at Mercer. It seems that Furman also has a church music division - can't remember. And University of the South (I think that's what it's called - the Episcopal school) also has a church music program. Rider U. and East Carolina have undergrad sacred music programs. [edit - just realized BassDad gave you Rider]

What denomination(s) are you interested in? What region of the country? What kind of school? What kind of music - contemporary? Classical?

Here's a link for schools offering sacred music as an undergrad degree:

<a href="http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/majors/brief/major_39-05_brief.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/majors/brief/major_39-05_brief.php</a></p>

(General announcement - not ignoring anybody - leaving for Rome tomorrow - no Internet - Catch up with you when I get back next week!)

well id probably do both classical and contemporary much like my current church. i am a practicing baptist, but any christian denom for undergrad will do. im from north central texas, so either midwest or south will be fine

Not sure you would enjoy the Episcopalians that much. Quite different from the Baptists.

im fine with all even catholics. im a moderate baptist, not a southern baptist, since texas left the convention 10 or so years ago.

and plus my uncle was lines coach for the university of the south football team for a few years before he came back to the construction business in dfw.

just visited him. he told me never to go there. something about lots of faculty havin affairs.

Sewanee is a great place- I'm sure there are affairs at every college.

I know you are only pretty much looking at the South but Houghton College in SouthWestern New York State is Methodist college with strong ministry and music programs. Several of my daughter's friends have gone there. It might be worth at least looking into.

One of my daughter's friends is majoring in worship music and Liberty U. in VA. She loves the school and the program. They seem to be very generous with financial aid...might be worth checking out.

wait isnt liberty the one with jerry fallwell and kinda like bob jones and pensacola christian

How do you feel about Lutherans? I don't know a lot about this one, but my son's trumpet professor suggested he look into it back when he was applying to college. It is Martin Luther College (University?--not sure which) in Iowa. So apparently they have a good music program. They also train Lutheran pastors...

im fine with all denominations. ive heard lutheran schools are amazing for the kind of music ill be pursuing(probably more traditional with a big ol organ)

plus im full blood pa dutch so itll be a return to the original denomination
