Best Schools for Biomedical Engineering?

I am currently a junior in high school and I hope to major in biomedical engineering in college when I graduate. I currently live in the Sacramento area of California, and I was wondering which colleges in the area (California, Oregon, Nevada) have the best Biomed programs. So far, everybody has told me Cal Poly SLO, so I think I am leaning towards that but I would like to know a bit more about other colleges too.

Does anyone have any experience/advice on where I should apply? Thanks!!!

What do you want to do with your major? Are you more interested in the biology side or the engineering side? If biology, then UCSD should be top on your list. If engineering, then Cal Poly would be fine. Is money a factor? How are your grades and test scores? Other schools to consider are Stanford and UC Berkeley.

I am really interested in engineering as a future career, but love to learn about biology. Money isn’t really a factor, I can apply for scholarships and whatever else. I’m just trying to find a few colleges that I can look into a bit more in depth. Also, my grades are great (4.2 GPA), and I’ve only taken the SAT once because I’m a junior but I did relatively well on it (2000) and plan to take it two more times.

Unless your parents are agreeing to pay for whatever college costs, then money IS a factor.

Applying for scholarships won’t pay for college. Those are mostly for small amounts and usually ONLY for freshman year. It’s very hard to get private scholarships to pay for four years of college…VERY hard.

However, there are some schools that give scholarships for all four years, but they likely won’t be free rides. Your family will still be expected to pay some costs.

You need to talk to your parents about how much they’ll pay.

Get the best scores you can. :)

If you’re interested in eng’g as your future career then don’t rule out MechE or ChemE as an undergrad degree.

What is your career goal?

If you also want to consider leaving the west coast and go somewhere on the east coast, Johns Hopkins and Duke are excellent for BME.
