I was wondering if somebody could help me figure out a list of some universities that I should apply to. I am looking for some with a good pre-law program. Preferably one with generous financial aid, and those that would help me get into a good law school. Thank you!

Pre-law isn’t really a thing. Pre-law is a track - similar to pre-med. Only unlike pre-med, it does not have any required courses. Pre-law is essentially, take the LSAT. Period. Other than that, go to a school that you like and study something that you like. There is no “pre-law” major. There is no “pre-law” school. And there isn’t (or shouldn’t be) any particular “pre-law” program. If there is, it’s not worth your time.

Just go to whatever school you like best and is affordable to you. There are no “pre-law” schools. Absolutely do not go into significant debt for your undergrad if your goal is law school.

What are your stats?

How much can you afford?

Harvard and Yale have the best placement. A lot of people say that it’s a pure LSAT + GPA game, but I don’t buy that top LSAT scores are almost entirely found at Harvard and Yale. In fact if SAT predicts LSAT scores than Berkeley should have just as many top scorers as Harvard and Yale. So I suspect there has to be some bias towards those top schools.

top LSAT scores are almost entirely found at Harvard and Yale.

that’s because those who are “great and awesome testers” are found at H and Y (and P and S) for undergrad ANYWAY… These people don’t do better on the LSAT just because they went to HYPS for undergrad.

A good pre-law school is a school where you can get a high GPA majoring in something you like and prepare well for the LSAT (there are no specific course requirements), and which does not burden you with a lot of debt to drag along through expensive law school.

Any good university will do the trick. What matters most is GPA and LSAT scores. It is generally believed that Law schools give slight preference to applicants from their own university, so attending a university with a good Law school can only help.

What are my stats? Hmm. In regard to income? Quite honestly, I’m rather well off. However, my parents never thought of saving for my college, and I don’t have enough funds to make a dent. So, I’d say 100,000+. If you’re referring to academic stats, please let me know, because I misinterpreted your comment.

How much can I afford? Well, If I pay out of pocket only, no financial aid or scholarships, then probably only around 7,500 a year, or somewhere in that area. However, I think I will be able to get a decent amount of scholarships and grants. I plan on University of Iowa as my safety school, and I can probably guarantee acceptance (Iowa has a system called RAI, and I will almost definitely meet the requirements). I should be able to get a decent amount of merit scholarships, and I’ve done programs with the Belin Blank Center that UofI has on campus, so that should help. Worst comes to worse, I’m ok. But it’s always been my dream to go to an Ivy League, and I want to see if I can get in.
