What are the best schools to send national merit recs to?
Which ones value interest the most/offer aid for NM?

S received a scholarship from University of Central Florida--full OOS tuition, room and board, books, a laptop (supposedly fully-loaded, from what I've read from others on CC; he'll get it in the fall), automatic admittance into their honors college and Lead Scholars leadership program, and other perks. They flew us down to Orlando and paid for our hotel, just so we could visit UCF. Of course, this is a NMF scholarship. Semi-finalists do get a smaller scholarship, though.

yay a reply, any other comments?

I've heard to not name any Ivies or MIT because they don't give any money. I'm a bit confused, though, because if it helps in the admissions, I don't care about the money - I'm still going to name MIT as one of them. In short, I know nothing and am about as confused as you are. lol.

Yeah I'm really confused. My counselor didn't really know anything. What does the Colllege Board send when you choose a college? Does it help you get in to the college?

Yes, does it really help?

does anyone know if it helps for duke?

If you know you won't make into NMSF, then would it still be useful to send the recs? Would the college only recognize your status, or would there be scholarship for Commended Students as well?

NO....you should not put the Ivys or any other college that doesnt give money because they won't give you money lol....but the thing is that you can send them a copy of your report saying that your a finalist to make yourself more recorgnized and it will be the same thing

wait...so this sending messages to two colleges is about financial aid?
i thought its some stuff benefitial to your future application
i am still wavering anyway

Don't put down Ivy schools or MIT. I called MIT admissions to ask them. Refer to this thread and look for the "update" post.
