Best sports school?

What school has the best overall sports/athletics program?
Im talking about schools that have great programs(facilities, coaches and wins) in a variety of sports

avon old farms has the best athletics and facilities.

berkshire I heard has amazing facilities and pretty top of the line sports… not sure about anything else at the school though

Deerfield has the best overall. Kent and SPS for Crew.

kent has a nice boathouse

Yeah, and they have an amazing crew every year.

Hotchkiss has first rate facilities and first rate teams in numerous sports, although several of the top Bearcat squads are a little down this year.

yeah, I here kent has a really nice boathouse for crew and berkshire has an amazing basketball/hockey facility

Deerfield and Andover from what I’ve seen have the best sports overall. Andover has an insane swimming team and their XC team is pretty incredible. Exeter probably second behind those. Exeter’s sports do great though. And Kent, SPS, and Exeter have incredible crew teams. It just depends on what your sport is.

Yeah, ifax summed it up pretty well. Peddie have an amazing Swim team too. Loomis has a good lacrosse team, so does DA( they’re nationally ranked). In any case, most schools have sports that will be more than enough for the average applicant.

Just saying, we nearly sweeped Deerfield day both this year and last year… Not that I’m saying Deerfield’s teams are bad, I’m just surprised no one has said anything about Choate yet. We have some of the best hockey and crew teams in the Northeast. Our boy’s Varsity hockey won nationals a couple years ago, and three of our recent alumni played on the WMNT in the Winter Olympics.

Sorting through this so far

deerhocth: Avon’s new facility is wonderful, but in general for a school with 400+ boys and PG’s they should have more success. Great hockey and some success in soccer recently but that’s about it.

yankee - Berkshire’s new facility consists of two hockey rinks and is pretty cool. Basketball court is about 30 years old. Teams in general are average at best.

No question that crew is Kent’s #1 sport and they are very good.

Swissbrit - Loomis hasn’t had much success in lax lately, and as good as Deerfield is, Salisbury has been the better team in West 1 for the last 5-7 years.

swamped - Choate underachieves athletically. There is no such thing as “nationals” for boys hockey and Choate has never won the NEPSAC D1 title.

and as to the Andover is best at sports followed by Exeter - umm, thats like saying MIT has the best football team followed by CalTechs

It is generally an unanswerable question. The larger the school, the bigger the pool to choose from when making cuts. At some large schools, even really good kids don’t make varsity.

zp

@mhmm,
That was based off my impression. I’ve read the scoreboards for some schools, and Andover seems to do slightly better than Exeter. But, that just an impression of one applicant, so don’t take my word as Gospel truth.

Choate has good hockey, just a horrible rink

Fun is Fun is right on the money as usual.

thanks jl – just calling them like I see 'em.

Can fun refer to himself as FiF again, not as “I”? It was more fun reading those posts

fif agrees.
