Best strategies to finish science + reading on time?

I really have to improve for those two sections - I'm aiming for 30+ (currently stuck at a 29) and they're really dragging me down.

I always run out of time on those two sections. It's kind of embarrassing because all my friends seem to be able to finish them fairly easily, so when I study with them, I'm always the last one to finish.

Anyways, any tips would be really useful. One thing that's helped so far for me in reading was actually reading the texts, rather than the whole "read-the-first-line/skim/read-the-questions" technique.

Also any tips on being able to focus would be great. It sounds weird but I get so exhausted and really distracted by the time I get to science.

Thanks in advance!

One top for focusing would be to eat something during the break between the math and reading section and also DO NOT TALK TO PEOPLE DURING THIS BREAK!

For reading, I would practice reading the whole text in a fast but still focused way when you do practice tests. It’s really the kind of thing that you need to practice and get good at. Also, almost all of the questions on the reading section can be ruled out just by the words in the answers (anything with “all” or “none” as part of the answer is probably not right because its too broad etc… you can look some of these strategies up online or in a book). Another great strategy is to underline important people, places, and things that are mentioned in the passage so that when you find a question with one of those special words in it , it is easier to find in the passage. Also, just an FYI, that reading the first sentence and skimming is actually an SAT strategy and will NOT for the ACT (as you found out).

For science, do not read the section at all. Only look at the graphs and tables. Just start reading the questions and go to whatever graph or table that they specify in the question. Every question has a specific graph for it. But, the full text question on the science section must be done using your skills from the reading section.
