Best Texas school for Pre-med and GPA question

If I want to major in biomedical engineering what would be the best school to increase my chances for getting into med school (would like to stay in Texas) and provide the best education possible. Because biomedical engineering requires harder classes and will likely lead to a lower GPA, will med schools consider this when looking at GPA versus an easier biology major?
major?

Unfortunately, medical schools don’t generally care what you majored in and the decision to choose a harder major may hurt you. That said, major in whatever is most likely to interest you since many who start as pre-meds ultimately change their minds. As for which school in TX to attend, find one where you won’t have to assume any debt. Medical school is wickedly expensive and they tend to be less ‘prestige sensitive’ than other grad schools - they want top GPAs and test scores.

So it would be better to go to UT than Rice or Baylor just for cost effectiveness even though the latter are more prestigious?

I would say so. Prestige doesn’t matter too much to the Med schools. You are probably far better off saving money and earning a high GPA at UT.

UT is probably much harder than Baylor on GPA since your competition will be tougher.

Does Baylor inflate grades?

Wow! Thank you!

No

and, prestige doesn’t matter to med schools. they care about GPA, BCMP GPA, MCAT, LORs, and ECs.

72% of UT are top 10% of their class while 72% of Baylor are top 25% of their class.

“Among students with high school class ranking, 72 percent were in the top quartile of their high school graduating classes. The score range for the middle fifty percent of the entering first-year class is 1140 –1320 with a mean score of 1234 for the SAT and 24 – 29 with a mean score of 26.9 for the ACT examination”
