Since my small school doesn’t offer any AP tests, I am planning on self-studying for both AP Chemistry and AP Biology (a lot of people have told me that it’s impossible to self-study for both tests, but I feel that since I’m starting over the summer, it can be done.) Anyways, I have Zumdahl’s (10th edition) for chemistry, but no textbook for biology. People say that Campbell’s is pretty good… However, I’m completely confused about which review book to get. I have heard mixed reviews for every one (Cliff’s, Princeton Review, Barron’s, etc.) Any tips and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
For bio, get an older (and thus cheaper) edition of Campbell-Reece. The material will all be there; it’s not like cell biology has changed in the last ten years. The best prep book to get is absolutely CliffsAP.
Hi! For one thing, AP Biology is definitely possible to self study for. AP Chemistry is a little trickier, but still definitely doable.
Campbell’s is a really good textbook for AP Biology, and when I took it two years ago, that was the textbook of choice. However, with the new exam, and the decreased emphasis on sheer memorization, Campbell’s might be a little too in-depth. Don’t get me wrong, Campbell’s is the most comprehensive textbook, but a lot of its material is superfluous and not at all necessary for the exam. If you are looking for a more readable textbook, I would recommend Principles of Life: for the AP Course: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1464156417/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3/186-3984851-6689859?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_r=1T3WMR30Q8223BGWDZFY&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=1944687662&pf_rd_i=1429257210
I agree with the post above me, for AP Bio, the best prep bok is definitely CliffsAP. I’ve heard the Pearson’s review book is pretty good as well: http://www.amazon.com/AP-Biology-Accompany-Pearsons-Campbell/dp/0321856635

Zumdahl’s is fine for AP Chemistry, and PR is a great review book. Good luck and happy studying!
@“Keasbey Nights” Thank you!
