anybody know of any helpful study guides or books that will help me study for the ap biology exam? i already know about cliff's note and princeton review. give me some feedback on what u think of these 2 books and any others that you may have found useful. i really need the help, considering i havent had the prerequisite of chemistry and need some extra help with that area of ap biology.

Cliffs AP = All that is needed.

i used kaplan and PR and got a 5.
my teacher sucked but those 2 books were responsible for my 5.
i first studied kaplan and ran out of time so i switched to PR for the organs section.

tiyusufaly-
was the cliff's ap that you used the 2nd edition. im trying to figure out if that's the most current edition because it's all i could find. and if you dont mind my asking, what did u score on the exam?

Cliff's are generally considered the best. I think it's good to scan through the diagrams in the Campbell's book.

Cliffs all the way. As far as I know, yes, the 2nd edition is the most recent one.

sorry to somewhat hijack the thread, but is the campbell book even necessary? Would I be able to get a 5 just be reading cliffs?

I myself have never taken AP Biology or the exam, friend_tater. But from what I have heard from everyone who has, Cliffs is perfect. It has been near unanimous agreement that Cliffs AP is sufficient to score well. And yes, the 2nd edition is I believe the most recent one.

Is the PR book pretty good? I saw the book and it had like everything that you need to know. I haven't taken the class, but I think it had most of the topics. It also had the labs explanations.

Important Question: If you self-study do you learn the things in A.P. Biology or do you just study for the test with Cliffs?

You might want to read this thread. As for whether you need Campbell or not, keep in mind that most of the people who say that CliffsAP is sufficient have already taken an AP Bio class and read the entire Campbell textbook. Here's what I wrote in that other thread: "If you're self studying, it may be worthwhile getting a copy of Campbell's Biology (the textbook). I think it may be useful to read through the textbook and use CliffsAP as a reference and review book. I think using CliffsAP alone will get you ready for the AP, but thats it. If you're really interested in learning Biology - even learning some things that won't be on the AP exan - get the Campbell textbook. Also, see if there's an AP Bio teacher at your school from whom you can get copies of old AP tests."

what about REAS?

sanguine007, what is REAS? to everyone else, thanks for the help. i have ordered campbells' 7th edition biology textbook, Cliff's AP Biology, Princeton Review, and Kaplan. i am now broke but maybe i will pass my ap biology class and hopefully make at least a 3 on the exam.

I would not recommend REA for AP Bio.

It has six practice tests, but I didn't find them to be too realistic.

Personally, I liked Barron's. It didn't review ALL the material, but it reviewed enough to give me a 5.

CliffsAP....
