I want to go to a school where I can get a great theatre education but I’m not looking for a BFA program because I’d like to double major. I am also not interested in that conservatory feel. Right now, I’m looking at Northwestern U, University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, and Northeastern U. For my second major, I am not certain but I’m considering communications or journalism. Where can I double major and still be in a great acting program? For reference - I have a 3.82 unweighted GPA, I’ve taken mostly honors/AP courses, and got a 32 on the ACT.
Some others factors I would like to have but don’t need:
-in/near a city
-mid-sized undergrad
-away from midwest with the exception of UofM (I’m from MN)
How much can your family afford to pay? Talk with them about that. Where the program you like best is one thing, but affordability will determine where you actually end up.
NYU seems an obvious one for an urban college good for both acting and journalism, but it may be bigger than you want. You’d need to get into the theater program first, and declare a double major later. Budget might be an issue.
My daughter is a double major at Loyola Marymount U, getting a BA in Theater and her second major is Women and Gender Studies. She also is getting a Screenwriting minor. It’s a midsized school, and your stats are higher than hers and she good good merit. She absolutely loves it, and of course, LA is a great place to be for Theater majors.
USC also has a BA Theater program (or did four years ago).
