Best things about Andover

That totally makes no sense. If you wait till kids have left home till they can drink then they are more likely to go crazy because they never got to drink in a supervised parent environment. Why would US kids go crazy compared to UK kids? And seriously Urbanflop (I Know we always argue about everything lol) so I can go home at 18 and drink as much as I like but the second I enter US borders I’m too irresponsible?

I saw swissbrits post and that’s quite true. I don’t break the law or anything, Ive never drank in the US. I mean I’ve had some tiny amounts of alchool at weddings and stuff before outside the US. Believe it or not I didn’t miracolously get drunk or suffer brain damage :P

& this has to do with Andover how?

um, I believe Busterdad mentioned drinking and it went from there. Besides the OP doesn’t seem to be strongly objecting.

Very good question? I didn’t even realize this was the Andover thread; I just saw them talking about drinking and gave my opinion.
In Africa they have self-control…probably not Europe.

Biased much Urbanflop?

Haha Obviously in Africa, yeah I think the thread has gone of topic a bit, people we should start talking about Andover on this thread again since it is meant for that. I mean I don’t know why I keep on posting , I am pretty sure that I am not in …

My point is (and this occurs whether at Andover, other BS or at home) that in high school you are likely to be exposed to alcohol and drugs at some time or another, off campus, or on. Formal age or legality will have little to do with it.

Fundamentally, you are about to have to make some choices about yourself, and some thought in advance is in order.

Also, note I valued greatly the experience of having visited Harvard (and I learned what not to do before I was at college…); BS’s that forbid such visits are being over protective. I found the Andover’s balance of trust in its students versus “in loco parentis” good.

Trust me you will definatly experience drugs and alcohol when u get to high school.
Thats a good point swiss brit, the kid in my class said his parents started providing acohol when he was 13. I think thats a little early, but at least he had parent supervision and learned about responsible drinking, instead of being in college with no parent supervision, tons of peer pressure and exessive amounts of beer. Also the point Blue made is tru to. With the drinking age a 21, kids are like whatever that is way to long to wait even if i wanted to, but at 18 alot of kids would still drink underage but at least its not as far off as 21, they’d probably be like if I can wait that long to vote and stuff, I can wait that long to drink

Anyway Andover=Awsome, I just love the name to, Andover, Andover, Andover, its so prety :D

Yeah, it kind of is awesome. I go to Andover, so PM me with any future questions.
But just to let you know, if you are a new Freshman, and sometimes if you are a new Lower, you are most likely going to be put in Abbot, which is the closest to town but the farthest from campus. Abbot is a cluster if you had forgotten.

Exercise is good. My kids currently walk a mile to school every morning and back, about 3/4 mile if they cut through the corn field. (not kidding - there’s a corn field adjacent to school) How far away is Abbot?

Not sure of the exact mileage, but its under 1. 12-15 minutes to Commons with a heavy backpack, 7-9 without. But people forget things in their dorms a lot, so it is troublesome to have to walk all the way back. I like being far away from the main campus though, because it feels a little more like home.

Are people late for classes alot ?

I’m only late for classes if I walk too slowly or take diversions. Getting from class to class is totally doable, maybe with the exception of going to or from Graves (the music building - a ways down Main St. across from Cochran Chapel).

Swissbrit, to answer your question directed to me earlier, I’m looking at a few larger colleges and some smaller liberal arts ones. I’m nowhere near finished with my college search, though - my search thus far has been very preliminary. I’m looking at Stanford, Brown, Williams, Amherst, Bowdoin, Dartmouth, and NYU. As I said, very preliminary; I need to add safeties. NONE of those schools are safeties. It’s very likely I’ll change my mind a million times before I need to even start writing the apps…

Stanford is SUCH a great school, since 6th grade, that is the college I have wanted to attend. This or Harvard.

Tom, do you have 5 min between clasees or more/less ? Wow these are all very impressive Universities, I hope you get into your top choices. Sandakm my favorite Uni’s are UPenn Wharton and Oxford lol but I probably won’t end up going there.

Swiss, anything is possible, all you got to do is believe. I feel that is from a song I have heard.

Haha lol which song ? You know what they say, if there is a will there is a way

Rappelling off the Bell Tower (does S&R still do this?)…

Sorry BusterDad , I am not following you …
