To all kids who go to Andover, are there any cool teachers worth mentioning ?

I have heard that Andover’s Physics program is outstanding. Can anyone point me to data that would substantiate this. I remember hearing something about the AP scores being phenomenal. Thanks.

I actually heard about the Physics department at Andover and correct me if I am wrong but I believe that it was 4.9 on the AP exam but I may wrong…

C’mon people lets talk a bit about Andover and cool things to do there…

What are you guys doing on M10 ?

C’mon to App 2010 thread where all the cool or not so cool people are :)

You and I have state tests lol.

Haah I went on to App 2010 but I didn’t get what you were doing lol, were you writing poems or songs ? Lol. Yeah it sucks that we have state tests,do they count towards our grade ?

@ swissbrit haha wow you seem so excited about Andover(me too, I’m so nervous waiting for the decision letters)

I’d like to ask some students who are already going to school there a few questions about Andover(if there are any viewing this page):

Any South-East Asians there? (Not important but I just want to know if there are lot of people from my side of the world)

Is the workload very tough there?

What is it like compared to school in Asia? ( I’ve never been to school in the US, much less a great school like PA…)

Is admission into the 10th grade(instead of the usual 9th) a very awkward thing for students?

Yes lol I am very excited but I know that I won’t get in, there are probably a few southeast asians but I do not know, if you get accepted, you can see kids on revisit day lol. The workload is very tough 3-4 hours a day of homework for freshman I think. I do not know if the school is different from an asian school, I think it would be . And for the last question I have no idea.

CK, I don’t go to Andover but a walk around the campus or a look on the website can show that there are many SE Asians at PA :)

@jasminexx

haha well that’s a relief(not implying anything of course, I just wouldn’t know what to do if everyone around me had blonde hair @_@) . When I went there for a campus tour and interview I did notice that there were a lot of Asians, but I just wanted to clarify. Thanks !

@swissbrit

aw c’mon don’t be so pessimistic. The odds are against me too haha. All we can do now is pray and hope for the best. CROSSES FINGERS WEARS LUCKY CHARM Thanks for the advice!

CK, I’m from SE Asia too.
What country are your from? Please give me hints (or at least PM me)

My cousins graduated from A, and they told me there were a couple of very smart, very accomplished SE Asian students :)

So I’m hoping the adcoms will count me as very smart, very accomplished too. rofl

CK, I can tell you that there are PLENTY of South-East Asians at Andover, so don’t worry about that.

The workload is very, very heavy, but not unmanageable. It simply requires that you adjust your time management. For some, this is an easy transition; for others, it’s the hardest transition into PA. However, few here complain about the workload because most everyone is in exactly the same boat and we get through it together. In a way, it’s a real bonding experience to be up late at night together in the dorm finishing homework. Kids here stick together through both the good and the bad.

It wouldn’t be awkward at all to enter as a new Lower. Plenty of kids do that; last year, there were 70 new lowers. Granted, there will most likely be fewer than that this year, but probably not too many fewer than 50. I have a ton of friends who entered as Lowers, and indeed it’s very common. Entering as an Upper, however, as I did, is less common.

Is it the finals week at Andover, Tom? Thanks for taking time to post still.

Yeah, it’s finals week, but it’s also almost March 10; this day meant a lot to me last year so I figure I can spare a few minutes for people who give as much weight to tomorrow as I did a year ago.

But yes, exams… I DESTROYED my history exam earlier today, thank goodness… Math and chem tomorrow, though, and I’m not as sure about those…

Well thanks for your advice during this process Tom, good luck with those exams :D

I just the Andover viewbook in the mail the other day…
it definitely changed my mind towards it, in a good way!!!
