Best Time to Take the SAT

I'm thinking of taking the SAT in either January or March. I hear that the curve is harsher in January, though, because usually it's just the smart juniors who take the test then. Is this true?

No, don’t try to pick an “easier” date. The best time to take it is when you feel well prepared, as long as you try it at least once before senior year.

Would it be reasonable to take the PSAT in Oct, SAT I (1st try) in Nov, wait for results in Dec, and then retake SATI in Feb or Mar if necessary?

^ Yeah, that seems fine, other than that the SAT is not offered in February (January is available, though).

Another option is to also sign up for the December test on the assumption that you will want to improve upon your November score but don’t feel that you need much more preparation time, but then cancel the December administration if it turns out that November went satisfactorily.

Do you get PSAT and SAT score results prior to the December test? Can I still change the test date to later or something if I don’t like my test score and still don’t feel ready when I receive the results?
