I've read a lot about people visiting in bad weather and I was wondering : What month has the best weather for visiting during the school year?

I live in S. Calif. so I don't have much expersience with East coast weather.

I just thought of something. Does anyone reccommend visiting a college in bad weather just to feel if you could handle it as a student?

Weather in NE is a tad bit unpredictable and definitions of bad vary from person to person. Last June was a “bad” weather month, because it rained all the time, but the rain was remarkable because it was unusual for June, in fact it was the cloudiest June since 1903. Now it’s moderately sticky like July is supposed to be around here.

If you are looking for an excuse to see snow as well as see colleges, by all means, book your trip in February.

Honestly, the best time to visit is when you can go to classes and do an overnight on campus, so: school year. Don’t visit within the last month of the semester, as students are more grumpy about getting work done. Of course, if you prefer a hands-off hostess, come then.

I’m from Arizona and I visited Wellesley in March or April (I forget which). It wasn’t snowing, but it was still pretty cold, at least by my standards.

I feel like this was a really good time to go. I did not do an overnight stay because I was only a junior when I visited, but the timing of the trip gave me an idea of what the weather would be like. I have lived in AZ for my whole life and seen snow about 3 times maybe. The weather wasn’t really a deterrent for me, but we’ll see if I change my mind this fall when I’m there.

Definitely visit during the academic year: if you come in the fall, come before Thanksgiving break. To come not in the middle of a snow storm, I would try to visit in Sept/Oct or March/April. It will still be cold by SoCal standards but it will be better. Bring a warm warm warm coat.

Visit during the academic year (september-december & february-may) when classes are in session. The campus definetly different when all the students aren’t around. Also, I recommend visiting when there are leaves on the trees (sept-end of oct./beg of nov. or april-may). Campus is soooo much prettier when it is in full bloom then during the bleak winter that never seems to end!

The best time to visit any school in the Northeast, New England area is during the cool-cold months. Those are going to be the months when you are on campus. If you like it then, you should be fine. It really doesn’t pay to visit in warm summer or late spring, because that is not when you will be there.
