If you could give your best tip to a freshman, what would it be? It could be anything, academic, social, whatever you want it to be.

Mine would be to search this forum, because this question has been asked about 30 times in the past two weeks.

^

I was about to say

Other than that, GO TO CLASS!

go to class, don’t go to class hungover, don’t party too hard and flunk out of school.

Time management

Organized/efficient studying

Networking. Get to you know your professors, even if you’re in a lecture of 700 people.

If somebody offers you something for free, TAKE IT. It could be a shirt, a hat, a pencil, a soda, etc. TAKE IT. Even if you don’t want it, somebody else might. I did that with lots of free shirts, I would give them away if the size was not mine.

sleep. really. go to bed.

No matter what else remember that you don’t get to go back and do it over again…

Stay present and don’t miss a thing by getting caught up in the 3 D’s. (Drinking / Drugs / Drama).

Enjoy yourself and do the best you can but don’t worry about any one thing too long because it will be over before you know it…

Don’t forget to have a total college experience…the things that happen outside of class are the things that will still matter in 20 years

don’t take a class before 11am. you stay up a lot later than in hs.
alcohol:
if an alcoholic beverage tastes delicious, and you can’t taste the alcohol, do not chug it. keep track of how much you drink. don’t mix more than 2 types of alcohol in one night. don’t keep changing from beer to liquor or beer to wine or anything. drink a bottle of water before bed. if you get sick sleep on your side. be safe. don’t drinkt o the point of puking. know your limits and stick to them. don’t be afraid to say no.

take care of yourself.

I know it sounds obvious but having just finished my freshman year I can’t tell you how many people I saw forget this completely.

Take care of yourself physically. Eat right. Exercise. Try to get some sleep. College is hard enough without you having to worry about how gross you feel. Feeling healthy will increase your self-esteem and just make you happier in general. In terms of alcohol, Tiff has some great tips. Always have a buddy and make a plan for how much you’re going to drink. Never drink for “liquid courage” because you will ALWAYS regret it later on when you’re sober. Don’t go to sketchy parties by yourself even if you know some people who will be there. you really need a buddy. Always be aware of WHAT you’re drinking (people mix crazy stuff in punch) and HOW MUCH you’re drinking, especially if you haven’t had anything to eat or drink earlier in the day. Know your limits and never be afraid to say no. Chances are, people won’t remember if you say no so it’s not like you have to be embarrassed. Plus there’s nothing more embarrassing than Facebook photos the next day.

Take care of yourself mentally. Make an effort to be social and try everything. Put yourself out there. Make good friends who will go to the ends of the earth for you. Get to know other freshmen but also upperclassmen, because they can offer great guidance and life advice. If something in your life’s stressing you out or making you unhappy, let it go. Don’t surround yourself with drama or negativity. Hang out with people who make you feel good about yourself. Pick a major you love and it won’t feel like work. Don’t be afraid to be a little homesick…it’s perfectly normal and okay to feel bad sometimes, but if you sense yourself getting into a rut, seek appropriate help.

Take care of yourself emotionally. Figure out who you can trust and don’t jump into really intense relationships right off the bat, because remember, you don’t really know people in the first month or so. When I say relationships I mean romantic and friend relationships, because both can cause a lot of happiness but also a lot of sadness. Keep in touch with your high school friends and family, but not too much, because you don’t want to sacrifice your life at college for the one you had back home. Accept that you will change and the people around you will change, but remember that you have control over the kind of person you want to be, the kind of things you do, and the kind of people you hang out with.

Above all, have fun! Relax! Enjoy these years! You will meet amazing people and if you push yourself and challenge yourself, can accomplish amazing things. Good luck!

First, get enough sleep, and second, bring your gameboy with you so you can play pokemon (preferably blue/red/yellow) cuz that game is the ****, no lie.

relax.

Realize your limitations early and dont overload yourself unless you can do it.

Not everyone you meet on the first day is going to be your best friend in college but you still need to meet people.

Some people carry over their high school mannerisms with them to college. beware of this.

Try not to skip class if you can help it.

dont sweat the pre reqs. they’re just there and something you have to deal with.

Dont drive yourself insane because of something not going right whether it be school social life or anything. just relax, play some video games, listen to music. just relax. things will be good

Figure things out for yourself rather than asking other for people’s opinions.

Rush fraternities, then pledge like you owe them your life for giving you a bid, don’t worry about grades… you can make up that class later
