Tips for College Freshmen!

Hey guys, so the company that I'm currently working for went down to NYU to interview students to see what tips they had for college freshmen of next year. And this is what they came up with:

YouTube - Surviving Freshman year

I was wondering what are your thoughts on the video itself and the advice given. Help me out by sharing your own tips too, and you can win a one-hour career coaching session.

Thanks!

I thought the video was put together very well, the advice given seem more so randomly ( as in nothing was script) and a individual themself can determine how useful they’ll find each. As for me, some of the advice were those I’ve read on cc so definately in the range of advices I’ve expected.

Learn to do laundry so you don’t break machines and screw others over. Learn to control eating. Learn to drink like a champ.

I also must say, due to my interest in New York University I did find myself looking at backgrounds etc… and everything I may be able to discover from the video leading to me not being able to fully pay attention to advice given.

hahaha chillax

That first kid seemed like he was high and confused.

That control eating tip is essential. I’ve burned through my meal points way faster than I ought to. Needless to say I’m gonna need the rents to recharge it before the quarter is over.

ahahahaha that was a solid opinion right there.

I think why the first kid looked confused was because he just woke up when someone went up to get him from his room to help out.

DHHurricane - do you have a kitchen in your dorm or are you traditional style? I find living with a kitchen much easier when you can make many small meals throughout the day.

Maximaro, I don’t have a kitchen in my dorm but also believe eating in the cafeteria wastes way too much money! But so does buying expensive frozen food, so I’m at a total loss as to how I can save money on meals…especially hot meals, not just PB&J sandwiches, of course.

There’s a kitchen in my dorm building but the cooking equipment is always dirty as hell. Blech.

The problem is my cafeteria has a monopoly on food pretty much. The only competing options are Taco Bell, two pizzerias, a wing joint and a subs place. You get sick of that pretty quickly so you’re left to pay $10 for a chicken sandwich and some fries.

DC - I would maybe consider investing in one pot and a frying pan (and maybe a colander), and buy some essentials like salt and oil. You could probably save a bit of money by making something hot and quick (pasta?) or eggs for breakfast. Sounds expensive and troublesome at first, but it does help a bit. My friend had a smiilar situation with there being only one kitchen.

Do any of your friends live off campus? Maybe you can go to their place and have a cookout with them once a week. And pitch in a litle more so you can some leftovers?

Any more feedback for the video?
