Best Transfer Option UTSA to UT vs. ACC to UT

Gathering info for my Daughter. She is currently attending UTSA as a Freshmen and intends to Transfer when she’s eligible to UT Austin (Where we live). It doesn’t seem like she’s fitting in to UTSA, or she’s homesick (not sure). But she wants to Transfer to ACC and then Transfer into UT.

Questions is, does it make a difference ACC to UT vs. UTSA to UT?

Does leaving UTSA after a Semester affect the Transfer into UT?

If she leaves UTSA after this semester she is no longer guaranteed a spot at UT for liberal arts. She can take ACC and apply normally as a fall transfer but unless her GPA is a 4.0 there is no guarantee she will even get into UT. But if she sticks with UTSA for another semester and maintains at LEAST a 3.2 (not difficult at all) she will be guaranteed a spot and will already have her major of choice locked in by June.

Also, this only applies if your daughter is a CAP student. Otherwise leaving UTSA will make no difference if she decides to transfer to ACC.

UT is hyper-competitive. Getting in is one thing. Getting into a decent major that has a future is something completely different. If she goes to ACC and transfers, she would need to apply for admissions to her desired major separately. Liberal arts is easier, but business, nursing, or anything STEM related is near impossible, unless she is already admitted as a freshman. Honestly, I think she’s better off staying at UTSA. There are more opportunities for employable majors.

I’ve had one child transfer from UTSA into Mech Eng and one transfer from Blinn (similar to ACC) into RTF. Both majors are terribly hard to get into. The key, where ever she chooses is to be somewhere she’s comfortable and happy and can get the GPA. Those pre-transfer years were the ones they worked so hard and got 4.0’s in order to achieve their successful transfer result.
