Accepted to College, with my stats I can make it in? I always thought Carnegie Mellon was extremely hard to get into and I need 600-650+ in all 3 sections of SAT to make it in. Do you think this would be a high match or a massive reach for me? I won't be taking SAT again.

It's a reach, but I can't see why, if Wall Street is your aim, you'd want to. You could be working on Wall Street next year, and be at Baruch besides, and with a bunch of money to burn.

Put yourself in the shoes of someone who does Wall Street hiring? Would you prefer a mediocre CMU grad with little or no experience, or a Baruch grad (hopefully high ranking), with four years of experience working himself up from the mailroom? No-brainer to me.

how would i be working in a mailroom if i was to be at Baruch at the same time? do they offer nice internships and stuff

CMU isn't that hard to get into if you apply ED (little secret). I know friends who got in with your scores.

Plus, many Tepper grads go to NY. "Mediocre CMU grad" ? I doubt Baruch will give you IBM, Merril Lynch, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase.

Tepper has a higher avg salary last year than NYU Stern, Michigan's Ross, and its median was 55k, greater than Upenn Whartons avg of 54k.
Plus they allow you free reign in schools so you could double major in comp sci if you wanted (which has avg starting salaries in the 70-80ks).

thx a lot for the help Accepted to College Already, I didn't know it was easier to get in Early Decision. I definitely want to get into that school, I read up about it online and it really seems like a great business school. Sure it's a reach, but it's worth a try.

Baruch is heavily recruited, you know, seeing as it's in NYC. For a partial list of companies that recruit there: http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/careers/students/employment/comlist.htm . Looks pretty good to me.

And that's AFTER graduation. The OP wouldn't have to wait that long.

Not internships. Jobs. Like in real jobs. Like in working. Like you keep knocking on the doors until someone lets you in, and you work your schedule around it.

Check out the IEOR department at Columbia. ALOT of companies on Wall Street recruit from Columbia, here is the link.

http://www.ieor.columbia.edu/companies.html

Just some real life info to add to the comments...I've actually talked about this with family members in the past.

My father, former VP at Chase, had a preference for Holy Cross grads. He found Ivy leaguers reluctant to do the homework that comes with entry level training programs.

My aunt, who's an exac at one of the major pharma companies, has refused to hire Warton grads after having to send more a few to writing workshops. She has found that those with liberal arts backgrounds are her favorites.

Bright kids are everywhere. The recruiters know that.

Go where you'll be happy and you'll perform at your best. That will get the attention of recruiters.

CUNY Baruch doesnt have housing, right???

Nope. But what a great advantage! If you are working on Wall Street, and going to Baruch, do you really wanna hang around the college cafeteria?

But what if you are out of state? Where are you suppost to go?

The homeless shelter? Get real - the vast majority of college students in this country do not live in dormitories. You get on Craigslist and look for a roommate or two.

thx a lot for the help guys anywhere else

haha, thanks making that clear.

My friend who is from California that goes to Baruch just leases an apartment

I am really interested in Baruch, I would be a transfer from upstate NY. Can anyone tel me about their program as far as recruiting how well known it is and prestige and how it ranks against other b schools?

If you can't get into a top 10 business school then I would go to Baruch. Its often a safety for many potential business majors.

Besides, who says you can only apply to one college? Apply to some reaches and keep Baruch as a safety/match.

In New York City, it is by far the best known undergraduate business program. The Zicklin School of Business at Baruch is the largest business school in the U.S. All major banks and firms recruit from there, and also hire extra employees from there before students graduate. It has little bit less "prestige" than other schools because it is close to being free for NY residents ("prestige" being something that follows money.) But it more than makes up for it by the constant flow of recruiters to campus, huge alumni base, and contacts with international businesses with foreign officers based in NYC. (there are students from 90 different countries - I doubt that there is an Ivy except for Harvard that can claim the same.)

thats exactly what ive done i am pplying to like 12 schools for transfer
