Breaking down Wall St

Intended Major: Finance
White/Catholic/Middle Class
1st in family to attend college

Small Catholic High School, no ranking

3.6 or so UW gpa, no honors/ap/ib offered

SATs(gonna take again) - 1770(610cr 550m 610w)

jv/varsity basketball all 4 years
hospital volunteering 200+ hours

nothing else spectacular besides that.

What are some good schools for me to apply to?

What are my chances at following? With current SAT/improved SAT?

Fordham(Finance)(should be reach, but only slight reach)
Carnegie Mellon(Economics - easier to get in, also will apply ED)
Villanova(reachy)
Lehigh(probably stand no chance)

What are some other matches/safeties for me?

carnegie melon is not easier than fordham.

i didnt mean cmu is easier then fordham, i meant its easier to get into economics in CMU general school than to get into tepper for finance.

If math is a challenge, you may not want Wall Street. Whether in corp fin or trading, everyone is strong at math.

im strong on word problems and basic math, algebra and stuff. geometry and trig are not my cup of tea, but that isnt an issue for business.

btw: suze I know you are a troll, I have read your other posts

yes CMU is definitely a reach for you.
What state are you from? If PA how about Smeal College of Business at Penn State?

Im from New York State. Would Penn State still be a good option? I don't know if I would want to be around like 40,000 students.

If you are from NYS then there are many SUNY schools that offer finance that would be good safeties; you should explore those and apply to at least one.
http://www.suny.edu/student/search_programs/currfd_oas_main.cfm

Penn State is terrific but yes there are 42,000 at University Park and if you are out of state it costs twice as much.

bump bump bump

A troll for what? Do you know what a troll is? I am however, honest. Geometry is 20% of the SAT which would not account for a 550. Wall Street looks highly unlikely.

I've read past posts where you say how you attend X college, and then in next thread say X college should be avoided at all costs. You have no positive words of encouragement and only try to put people down. Stay out of my thread, your not helping me or anyone else, and I don't have a problem with constructive criticism but this isnt constructive.

suze isn't a troll, just a little harsh (sometimes she's right on, other times not so much, imo)

apply to Indiana (kelley)

I had a question about IU (Kelley) you need 1270 math+verbal to get direct admit to get into Kelley for freshman year, so when I apply what would I tell them I want to study? Would I study my Finance classes but not have Finance as a major? The not being in the business school the first year really confused me.

"suze isn't a troll, just a little harsh (sometimes she's right on, other times not so much, imo)"

This is probably the only time that I find she knows what she's talking about. In her world, HYPSM et al. only accept 1% of applicants.

Add to the low math score the fact that you can't read, as I've never said I attended any college here or anywhere else, and I won't worry about meeting up with you on The Street. You post on a public board, expect the truth. If you can't handle it go back to dreaming. Hey Harvard is a good feeder to Wall Street!!

Work hard and prove Suze wrong =)

Places like CMU are definitely going to expect a stronger math score though. Gluck!

Anything can happen, the world's a crazy place. With any luck he could save a Goldman MD's life in a raging fire this afternoon! Otherwise, the odds are not good. His scores will not get him into a recruited school. SAT scores correlate with GMAT scores. Amazing things would have to happen.

Well I hate to tell you Suze, but just because one doesn't get high SATs, doesn't mean they wont make it far. Just because you spent $10,000 on Princeton Review Classes that I cant afford doesnt mean your any smarter than me. You talk so much **** but business is all about being a team player, and working with others, something I know you can't do. I know a friend of the family who works for Goldman Sachs who broke into GS from Manhattan College! Just because he had a connection or two and had a good interview. People on CC need to realize there is life outside HYPS.

bump, maybe I can get some more college suggestions
