Best undergrad Engineering univ

Hi.

I would like to know how good these schools are as far as the undergrad engineering (i'm planning on mechanical) dept is concerned.

MIT
Duke
WUStL
Cornell
NorthWestern
Johns Hopkins
Vanderbilt
Univ of Notre Dame
UC Berkeley
Carnegie Mellon
Univ of Virginia
Univ of Michigan Ann Arbor

Thank you~!

I think Cornell is best for undergraduate engineering. It has a focus on undergraduates but also has a substantial graduate program and research emphasis which provides opportunities for undergrads. Cornell has a great academic climate in a diversity of majors. It has the Ivy mystique and prestige. Engineering at Cornell is very selective.

MIT, Northwestern, JHU, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Michigan are all excellent.

I don't think any of those schools would be bad for engineering, but you might want to ask yourself what you're looking for socially. Would it really make sense to apply to both Carnegie Mellon and U of Notre Dame for example?

Somebody forgot UIUC. Top 5 engineering school in the country.

I don't think there is a "best". Perhaps MIT? Cornell and CMU and Cal are close behind.

There's not much difference in the top engineering, for example, CMU and Cornell's postgrad surveys are almost exact mirrors of each other with respect to companies/salaries with small differences in certain fields (such as ECE for CMU)

Wash U is not that good for engineering.

Why would it be a problem if I applied to both CMU and Univ ND?

The student bodies are the complete opposite of one another.
