Anyone have a link to USNWR or any other rankings for this catagory for me?

Here's a link to the National Research Council rankings:

When reviewing IBclass06's link, please bear in mind that :
1) it is not an undergrad ranking at all; and
2) it does not include creative writing. Not that this matters, due to #1 above.

MONYdad, don't confuse 'em with the facts.

There are plenty of schools w/ great English departments & creative writing programs. Here's some undergrad info. on The University of Virginia's program. The NRC ranked the grad English program at #4. Last year's Pulitzer Prize winners in Poetry (Franz Wright) and Fiction (Edward P. Jones) were UVa grads.

For the future, keep in mind that The University of Iowa Writers' Workshop is recognized as having the best graduate level (MFA) creative writing program (http://www.uiowa.edu/~iww/about.htm):

"The University of Iowa Writers' Workshop was the first creative writing degree program in the United States and the model for contemporary writing programs. Workshop alumni have won a dozen Pulitzer Prizes (most recently Michael Cunningham in fiction and Mark Strand in poetry, both in 1999), as well as numerous National Book Awards and other major literary honors. Four recent U.S. Poet Laureates have been graduates of the Workshop. In 2003, the Workshop received a National Humanities Medal from the National Endowment for the Humanities. It was the first Medal awarded to a university, and only the second given to an institution rather than an individual."

It has been recognized by USNews, but I knew of its incredible reputation without the rankings ( I also know someone who's daughter is currently at the Workshop and she is incredibly happy) (http://www-as.phy.ohiou.edu/~rouzie/569A/compcreative/University.htm):

Yes, the Iowa program is a very well-known and highly-regarded program.

TopProspects, you may want to re-post this in an area where people would actually answer your question.

(replying to Globalist) Franz Wright went to Oberlin, not UVa. And Oberlin is one of the strongest LACs for Creative Writing and English.

Hamilton is good for creative writing

My personal top picks for UNDERgraduate creative writing programs (based on close examination of each schools actual offerings for undergrads): Kenyon, Oberlin, Knox College, Brown, Sarah Lawrence Johns Hopkins (yes, Johns Hopkins), Iowa. Other great choices: Bard, Bennington, Gettysburg, UC Riverside, Columbia, Eckerd, Emerson, U of Pittsburgh, U of Redlands, Wheaton (Mass), Washington College, U of Oregon, U of Michigan, Beloit.

Dave72, yes I know Franz Wright went to Oberlin, but he got his MFA in Creative Writing at UVa. Read my 2nd link.

My personal 2 cents,

My English Teacher went to U of Iowa majoring in Creative Writng as an undergrad. He had a fabulous experience. Yea.... it's darn good....

I'm a student at JHU, and I can tell you that its English and Writing Seminar departments are highly regarded as top programs of their kind in the country... no, we're not all premeds! Some other good picks would be traditional LAC's and the like.
