Is it better to apply “undecided” to have a better chance of admission and then transfer once enrolled?
Do you know what you want to study?
Industrial and Product Design
There are some schools, engineering for example, that are much more difficult to transfer into. I’m not sure which school Industrial and Product Design is in but as a rule it is usually easier to transfer out of a less technical major than into one. The undecided option really is for those who aren’t sure. In my opinion if you know what you want to study then attempt to get admitted to that specific major. Otherwise if you do get accepted you may find the back door closed to you.

It looks like this major is within the College of Liberal Arts. I would contact Purdue to see how selective the Industrial Design major is. Your choice would be to apply to Exploratory Studies in Liberal Arts or directly into the major. The danger of applying to Exploratory Studies is that if you did get admitted and then weren’t able to transfer to Industrial Design for what ever reason you’d be attending a school where you couldn’t study what you wanted. By applying directly for Industrial Design you would at least know that you are in your major. If you weren’t accepted then hopefully you’ll have been accepted to other schools for Industrial Design.
