Hi everyone,

I recently committed to UMD and since I'm going to live on campus, I need a roommate. What are the pros and cons of being randomly assigned to a roommate? Also, what are good ways to find a roommate?

There is not a single best way to find roommates. I’d say the most successful way would be rooming with a friend, but that is from a guy’s perspective. Some girls may have a problem with this. Random roommate works out most of the time. You’ll hear horror stories, but those are extremely rare cases, and if its that bad, you can always switch. The UMD Facebook group is not too bad either. Make sure you get to know the person before you actually room with them.

How about for off campus Transfer (sophomore) students? Is there a Facebook group?
