So now we know why Hogwarts, do not allow parents to accompany children to school. Can you imagine if the parents went, the amount of magic bolts and spells cast?

I can’t say enough good things about the students that volunteer to be at school early and lug everything up to rooms. When S started two years ago we stopped outside Donner and in the space of 2 minutes the van was empty. By the time I parked the van and walked back my wife and son had already started unpacking. I can’t imagine doing all that by ourselves.

We arrived Sunday at 9am. Had to wait a bit to park and unload. But, we can’t offer enough thanks to each and every one of the OCs, frat members, etc. for all the help. We were truly impressed at how organized and how smoothly things went. It was a great experience.

Everywhere we went, there were plenty of people to help assist, answer questions, etc. Funny thing is that when we went to the HUB to reconcile D’s account, person asked where we were from. I instinctively said, “Here.” Then, I corrected myself and explained that I was originally from Pittsburgh, but didn’t live there anymore…wondering why I ever left…sigh.

Left this morning believing that D is in a very special place. CMU has a very distinct character, which I have yet to see anywhere else.

Wooooo! I was one of the unloaders that moved stuff up to the Hill residences and man, moving stuff up to Scobell and Hamerschlag 3rd floor is not fun. Especially when like 10 people bring fridges. Gaaah.

But it was a lot of fun and I’m glad we OCs were able to help out the parents and students in this way. It’s a nice gesture that the old students try to help out their incoming friends.

Needless to say, I was exhausted that Sunday, having spent the morning moving in and the afternoon dancing for 3 hours at the UC Rangos Registration.

We are about halfway through orientation week and the fun is just getting started! W000!

I second all the thanks to the RAs and other students helping us move in. It all went very smoothly. I’d never visited the campus before and found it much more friendly and welcoming than I had expected. The impression from viewbooks, this site and others was that CMU was more institutional and cold…not at all! Its size makes for more opportunities. A great location. The students seemed enthusiastic and just normal, smart kids!
